I've heard that the side characters with running gag bits are topping character polls over Wuk Lamat. She's being panned even harder than Lyse was, so I guess I'm on the right track!

Why does this even matter? Comparing Dawntrail's writing with other expansions will not make Dawntrail's MSQ any better or worse. It's bad and no number of comparisons will change that.
Mostly because certain people adore making false equivalency comparisons to Stormblood, saying that Dawntrail was of the same qualtiy - if not better than STB - which was also received in a very mixed manner, MSQ wise. Except, no. STB was shaky. But DT can't even be compared to it due to how awful this MSQ was.
I miss Lyse...I'm sorry for disliking you before, please get this annoying orange cat out of my face please...
There's a non-zero amount of fans across the internet singing praises for it and doing the comparisons of DT > STB, and it's just not true. You get weird tweets like, "If Wuk Lamat was Doma's leader, Yotsuyu wouldn't have happened!" And crap like that.
It's important to put the truth out there somewhere so that unhinged takes like that meet opposition/are shown the confines of their bubble.
Like, sure, it won't change anything about what we got, but there was a post recently in a far nicer thread talking about, "discourse hygiene." i.e. How to talk about the story in a more refined and articulate manner, as opposed to nearly every post being shitpost tier quality/comparison.
