Date & Time: Since Dawntrail Early Access launch
Frequency: Constant
World name: Jenova and every other world I've been on on Aether
Character name: Yugi Momo and Mugi Yoto
Retainer name: N/A
NPC name: N/A
Monster name: N/A
Class/Level: Any
Party or solo: Applicable to both
In-game time: At all times
Area and coordinates: In all locations. Particularly notable in the Ifrit and Titan phases of UWU, the Golden Bahamut phase of UCOB, The Navel (extreme), The Bowl of Embers (extreme), The Binding Coils of Bahamut Turn 1, The Second Coils of Bahamut Turn 9, The Gold Saucer, TEA, Alexander - The Arm of the Father, and Alexander - The Arm of the Father Savage, The Singularity Reactor, The Singularity Reactor (extreme), and in my small player owned house.
Housing: Many housing items that glow or light up have this issue, such as Emperor's Throne, Il Mheg Flower Lamp, and Level Checker Replica
Steps:
- Go to the Gold Saucer, and observe the lighting on the aetheryte, and on the surrounding lighting panels on the steps and walls surrounding the aetheryte. Equip a glowing weapon such as Thyrus Ultima, or Ultimate Majestas.
- You can see in my example screenshot that the lighting on my Thyrus Ultima, and lighting on the screen mounted to the wall, and the lighting on the low to the floor wall panels spill in to the environment surrounding it. In the case of the Thyrus Ultima, all of the textures on the weapon are entirely obscured by the excessive lighting.
- Go to System Configuration -> Graphics Settings
- Look through all of the options in the tooltips, and notice that none of them mention they disable bloom
- Test each graphics settings one by one, and notice that none of them change the bloom/spillover lighting on the highly lit objects and weapons in the Golden Saucer.
This has been a rather frustrating graphical experience. I'm upset that upon coming back to the game after intermittent breaks in the month leading up to Dawntrail, much of my favorite battle content is giving me headaches after spending as little as fifteen to thirty minutes in instance. In some cases, particularly in the fifth and sixth zones of Dawntrail, I had to get up in the middle of cutscenes because of the eye strain and headaches caused by the excessive bloom.
I'm frustrated because I wasn't having these problematic experiences playing while Endwalker was current, and because I'm unable to raid with one of my friends who has entirely been unable to play since the Dawntrail launch because they can't handle the excessive lighting. I'm sure that this isn't the intended experience you were hoping to provide with this graphical update, and I strongly feel that there should be an option to remove the bloom. There was an option to remove the bloom before, which is why I and many others never experienced this sort of discomfort during the Endwalker expansion. The setting to disable bloom is what allowed us to comfortably visit zones like the Gold Saucer, and the numerous instances of battle content that I listed in the Areas section. I understand that none of the current settings are meant to disable the bloom, since none of the tooltips say they do, but there really should be an option to disable it, even if that means adding a new option.
