Please Reduce Damage from Notorious Marks when Mounted

Anyone who has beaten MSQ has probably also tried to do a Dawntrail A-rank hunt train or S rank. However, that also means that almost everyone who participates has experienced, at one point, getting killed midair trying to get to the spawn location by the new A/S ranks. Dying midair takes a lot longer than dying on the ground and also teleports the player back to the closest aetheryte, where they then must wait for a raise or return to home point and then teleport back. With the massive attendance of hunts right now, this also means that they completely miss the rewards for participation. This is a very frustrating experience for a lot of players to be denied in such a way.

So, SE, please consider reducing the damage done by Notorious marks when mounted. Mounted players cannot contribute (either by attacking or healing), nor can they get credit (even if shirked by a party member). Therefore, they should not be punished the same way as those who already have confirmed participation. There is already some safe measures in place, such as not being affected by debuffs if hit in midair, but that does not protect players from raw damage.

(To clarify, I think the regular damage is fine and does not need to be adjusted. I know the situation will improve as better gear comes out, but I still think this is a good safety measure to take, especially when considering future expansions and also newer players who would not be as well geared.)

How does one get killed midair?
Idunno if I'm extremely cautious or if others aren't, but I can't recall getting killed midair ever in FFXIV.
Isn't this simply an issue of not keeping a safe distance?

Some of it is because players don't expect the aoe to hurt as much as they do so they fly right into, but usually it's because of

    A) the a rank mobs have inconsistent rendering, making it difficult to see its location and any casting it's doing (especially if you have character render limit turned down)
    B) the aoe is absolutely massive and catches people off guard (see: the new S ranks, particularly Atticus from Heritage Found.)

Yep, happened to while I was leveling Viper. Just flying over the skies Thavnair, just noticed there was something happening far beneath me... and splat.

I assume no Z-level checking at all for some mechanic, turning it into an anti-air reverse orbital cannon.

There's some z-level checking, I'm sure. The problem is that a lot of aoes do extend pretty far up. I don't think they're infinite (I've seen plenty of times if I'm up way way high, enough to not or just-barely target, I'm plenty out of range), but.. I wouldn't rule out attacks extending the same distance up as they do outward (a circle aoe would thus actually be a sphere). And a lot of hunts have deceptively long range aoe.

But, I'd say even "reduced damage" doesn't cover all the bases. Feels pretty bad flying down to check out the tree in Garlemald and getting frozen in midair before you could even target to see what attack it was casting.

I'd say the massive aoe's are great at punishing people who like to do one attack and run away! But yes, not so great for situations like this where players just coming in don't even get a chance to see what it's doing before being KO'd

Seems like a "Working as intended" if you're low enough to be hit.

Perhaps it might be preferable to be knocked back and off the mount.
