Extremes are fun, expert dungeon bosses feel "expert" for the first time ever.
Dungeons themselves, (as in dungeon design) are pretty uninspired and I feel it went down from previous expansions.
New music is good, unfortunately some of it is recycled music from older content or at best a remix.
Areas are nice looking, nothing special, nothing bad (expect from the last area).
Story in ffxiv was never "good", but it was always fun, it had it highs and lows, but dawntrail took it to a new level of bad.
Graphical update is overall good but it seems a lot of people hate it, The world changes, light, textures are great, I dont see a lot of difference on the characters, my character looks a bit worse IMO but nothing I cant live with.
0 Queue time even on legacy servers such as Balmung was a great surprise, but I heard it's only like this on JP and NA, nobody cares about Europe at square?
Endless list of old issues that will forever be in the game and devs are either unable to resolve due to lack of ability/manpower or just because they are lazy.
A lot of the "new gear" is old gear.
A lot of dawntrail monsters are the same old monsters.
Overall, 4/10, Been playing the game for about 10 years, this is a low point, here is hoping for the future.

story was god awful, but I only have to experience that once and i can just skip story cutscenes going forward since i no longer have faith in your team's ability to tell a compelling story
the actual gameplay content has been mmmmmm chef's kiss, so good. keep it up.

Bad story, simple as.
Quest design needs to change, its samey, no change, nothing new, no minigames, nothing. Even the follow thing was from EW
Graphic updates are going in a right direction, double dye, surroundings. Doubt we'll ever get a fully open world with this trash engine but one can hope.
Just keep piling on the QoL and giving us more character customization, more CREATIVE stuff. Final Fantasy used to be a series of innovation, but the patches and a lot of this game has been rather formulaic on what they give us.
There are glimpses of going in a right direction, but I feel like either they don't have the dev power, engine power or want to give us more at once. I dread to think it's the last. Here's to the next 10 years unless some other more innovative MMO strikes the markets.

The core FFXIV endgame hamster wheel that they made a decade ago is still shining through, so that's good. Duty mechanics are suitably engaging, if a bit predictable.
Mmm...
Music and art teams hit a home run, but that's kind of par for the course in modern MMOs.
Am I missing something else?

I appreciate that the graphics update really brought out the beauty of Tural's open world zones that I'll fly a mile above once a week for a hunt or something, never appreciating.
And I really like how it brought the beauty straight out of my character, took that beauty behind the shed, and killed it.
Like come on, who prescribed her lexapro? Even ignoring the lie that was "we will maintain character impressions" and the devs complete silence after their faliure to do that, she's like a stone cold killer. Emotionless. There's more emotion in the 16x16 emojis we get on the forums.

I'm worried.
No matter how much good will, no matter how diligent and how hard a team can work... a day only has 24 hrs. A week only has 7 days. A month only has 4 weeks.
They're currently porting XVI to PC, doing further work for textures and models for XIV, working on Dawntrail patch content, and according to Yoshi-P they're working on 2 further unannounced games.
There's such a thing as too much to do for a single team. None of their projects will benefit from them working on 4 other things at the same time. Measure is an important part of hard work. I don't know if it's SE pushing their one successful team to do everything or if Yoshi-P is trying to bite more than the team can chew, but as much as I love the team's work, I just hope it doesn't blow up in their faces, because this is a rather risky thing to do.
For positive stuff.
Sincerely, I actually love how the Golden City was handled.
