    Frequent, Seemingly Random Freezing Issues after DT Patch

    Ever since the Dawntrail patch, I've been suffering from a consistent freezing issue which only seem to plague FFXIV.

    Once it starts happening, which it happens at random, my game client (and only my game client) completely freezes up for about 20-40 seconds at a time. Every 5-10 minutes or so, it'll freeze again for the same duration. During this, I apparently get the disconnecting symbol/Pokeball. The only way to temporarily fix this is to shut down and start my PC back up.
    I've already tried changing in-game graphics settings, including the new ones, but to no avail. My PC's internal temperatures are normal when these freezes occur as well, and I have done a clean install of the newest NVIDIA drivers. In addition, I tried disabling fullscreen optimization on my ffxiv_dx11 and disabling the Steam overlay (I play with the Steam version).

    The one time it did crash, which is when I had tried changing from either borderless window to fullscreen (or vice versa, I forget which), I got the following error codes:

    An update, I actually did repair the game files, all 93 gigs of them. It has done nothing to stop this issue. I feel like I'm losing it here.

    I am having this issue too. Game just suddenly freezes for 30-40 seconds before getting back. At first I thought I was crashing because I clicked on my screen when it happened and got the Program isn't responding message. But realized that its just freezing and waiting 30-40 seconds brings it back. It happens multiple times in a 3-4 hour session though, so its a big problem. I've seen it happen only in dungeons and raids, so I am not sure if that is part of the culprit.

    There is a reddit thread as well of multiple reports of the same issue.

    What Platform are you using? (Steam/Windows/Mac/PS4 etc.)
    At what point does the issue occur?
    How often does the issue occur?

    Are you running any additional programs alongside Final Fantasy XIV?
    Does the issue occur with one character or multiple characters?
    When the issue happens, is the PC over heating at all?
    Were any update or changes made to the PC around the time of the issue?
    Does this issue occur if the game is run in full screen mode? Does it happen in borderless or windowed mode?

    All steps taken to resolve the issue:

    Could you provide a system report? Simply go to the 'Config' option on the Final Fantasy XIV launcher and to the right of 'System Information' click on 'Display.

    The platform is Steam, when the issue occurs seems to be entirely random. Once it occurs once, it tends to keep occurring every 5-10 minutes, and it seems that fully turning off and restarting my PC is the only way to stop this.

    I've tried only running Discord alongside FFXIV (no in-game overlay), and it seems to have no impact.
    I only play this character, so I can't comment on if it occurs on multiple.
    When running Core Temp to keep an eye on my processor temperatures, the freezing seems to either have no effect, or they actually get cooler during the freeze.
    I had updated my drivers to the most recent version a day or two after Dawntrail's early access launched (as well as clean installing it), and it had no effect on the issues.
    The issue happens in both borderless and fullscreen mode, I do not play in windowed mode.

    You might want to think about upgrading your PCs, because even on Ps4 Pro there are zero issues.

    Although I was going to be upgrading my GPU soon, I feel like this is missing the point. People with better PC specs have been having this issue, and I scored quite well on the Dawntrail benchmark. None of these issues were occurring prior to the Dawntrail early access launch, either.

    Please try the following:
    - Update and reinstall the drivers for your graphics card and sound drivers (if applicable). It appears that your GPU [NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER] driver was last updated on [6/24/2024] at this time a newer version should be available. Please try updating the driver to see if it helps with the issue.

    - Please try adjusting/lowering the resolution.
    - Please try running the game as an administrator.
    - Perform a clean boot by opening the task manager and select the 'Start up' Tab. Disable everything.
    - Please be sure that Final Fantasy XIV is installed to the C: Drive. (If Steam version, make sure both the game and Steam are installed on same drive)
    - Please be sure to disable or remove any overlays (Discord, Steam, NVIDIA etc.) as they may interfere with startup.
    - Make sure that the Windows OS is fully updated.
    - Verify installation files (Steam)
    - Reinstall game (If steam version, try uninstalling and reinstalling both the game and Steam)

    Didn't want to post this until I was sure it was working, but I found what has so far stopped all the issues I was having.

    Disabling Microsoft Device Association Root was what solved it for me. It might be in combination with the fixes I tried prior, but once that was done, I have yet to have a freeze in over 2 weeks.
