You didn't answer my question:

Is my career broken because I'm not having fun programming?

There's still a difference between broken and not broken -- not having fun isn't "broken", you're not having fun because you're not enjoying yourself.

You walk onto a pressure plate, the door doesn't open = broken.

You walk onto the pressure plate, the door slowly opens = not broken.

One is an absolute, one can be optimized. Considering this is my field of work I'm pretty biased when it comes to this term though.
