It's not about being happy with a broken product. It's about being understanding and not a irrational fool who has no idea what it takes to develop an MMO and create new systems/formulas from the ground up.

I wish people would stop acting like they understand how development works. If you are searching for something to happen ASAP, even after a natural disaster, you clearly don't know and should stop contributing.

Doing leves to you reach the limit then crafting till they repop is freakin weak, i havent seen any difference with devo team changes or producer its the same crap... they are ignoring the fans and doing their own thing
SE just had a poll for the combat system and class uniqueness is being worked on as we speak, did you not catch that?
They even said, in two months they plan to roll out the battle changes, i don't understand what you're complaining about.

Stop being impatient, they're literally working on what you're talking about as we speak. You've seen the polls, the letters from the developer, they are absolutely NOT ignoring the fans. In fact, they're paying closer attention to them than most of the developers of the games you regularly play.
It's the fans who keep giving them mixed signals, so many people asking different things that usually conflict with each other, it can't be easy having a bunch of impatient players who feel entitled to CREATING the game for some reason.

If anything, they should start ignoring the fans a little, maybe then they could focus on what they think would be best, instead of gathering ideas from fans who don't even really know what they want in the first place.

FFXIV =/= a GTA styled game, nor is it a shooter, nor is it a reboot of Half-Life. It's an MMORPG which there's no threat to an MMO beyond the company itself, because right now there's MMOs from 1990s still alive and kicking even some underground MMOs.

The PS3 release will have a surge of players especially on the Japanese side, so it will fit just fine -- there's a slew of games you failed to mention that is Japanese specific coming out as well even for the PS2 still.

No game in history fades into oblivion unless you have zero playerbase -- The only thing that fades is hype, but Duke Nukem Forever was the running joke of the gaming industry yet they didn't throw in the towel.
Maybe I'm just being impatient, but I kinda agree that this game needs some monumental changes before it can compete with anything out there in the market. Anyone saying the game just needs to compete with MMOs clearly has no idea that the market is currently ruled almost entirely by casuals, meaning it will have to compete with everything out there for their money on at the very least, the initial $50/$60 purchase.

You're right on the example of duke, but... that is a game that changed developers multiple times and old content scrapped and started over from scratch several times as technology changed. Considering they plan on keeping FFXIV online this whole time, that is not an option for SE. They need big changes and fast, but that takes time, people, and money. And also really, really good ideas that are striking and fresh, which aren't all that easy to come by when you've got 12 other teams of people working on huge games in the same genre.

I played the game for two weeks in its current state because I was sucked in by the grindfest; My days were filled entirely with behest and levequests (eight to twelve hours at a time), but after the downtime ended, I've logged in once, for twenty minutes, and then stopped. I honestly do not feel the drive to play this game anymore as is and I doubt I will for some time, which is sad, considering I like the FF series.

Everyone does little patches between larger ones.

and if you want a bottom line definition of success for an mmo , here.

Generating enough revenue to continue running your game at a profit.

Troll or not, there is a pretty big point here. FFXIV is already very unpopular among the general gaming community. For specifically MMO players, it is a controversial topic. I think anyone who is interested in playing it is either currently playing, or keeping an eye out for when things get fixed. I doubt many brand-new players will emerge.

The longer it takes, the more distractions there are for those getting fed-up with the system as is.

All the patches that came out were mostly about tweaking/fixing but there will be a larger content update ( i guess/hope)
it takes time to prepare the content and then it needs to be localized in all languages and tested for PC and ps2, it takes time.
Airships and chocobos will come obviously, it is just a matter of time.

I would simply consider the current state as beta again and knowing that the developer is working to improve the game and there are no monthly fees. No one is forced to play, many choose to wait.

SE is no small garage developer, they have means to generate publicity and buy marketing. Once the game is ready the PS3 version will be released along with a great content patch and then there will be fresh wind, new press and all.

If the developer will make the game awesome that would show me great dedication and promise.
