Socialization is what separates MMOs from regular online games. While I understand that some people just enjoy the virtual world aspect, ignoring the social aspect of these games is kind of like playing a standard Final Fantasy game with only one character. For example, imagine playing through FF6 with only Terra in your party, or FF7 with only Cloud. Sure, it's still fun, and the story is still intriguing, but you're going to be missing a massive piece of what makes it interesting (the character interactions).
