Is the lack of character emotion being shown a technical limitation? [DT Spoilers]

Disliking the story aside . . . I was absolutely gobsmacked that in the last zone of DT NONE of the interactions with characters loved ones resulted in crying (sans A SINGLE TEAR from Erenville's mom).

Is it a technical limitation that SE has no way of making characters cry or have the writers/animations never experienced loss or emotional reunions before?

Seriously . . . Wuk Lamat doesn't even hug the woman she considers her Mom let alone cry.

Krile meets her parents for the first freaking time and neither her, nor her Mom, nor her Dad, cry.

Erenville's has to say good bye to his Mom and she sheds a single tear. No tears from him.

Like . . . come on. If you're going for these beats that are supposed to make us feel emotion then have the characters emote properly.

Now, I know not everyone expresses emotion the same way but all across the board everyones pretty damn stoic. The whole emotional disconnect of the characters and what was happening just made all these scenes fall flat for me.

Put in the effort SE and show real emotions if you're going to go for these kinds of story elements.

The characters can, in fact, cry. There is a scene in the Backrooms where Wuk Lamat tries to process her emotions regarding her brother Zoraal Ja. I think it just might be a choice on the director's side.

But that's just speculation lol

Spent their entire crying budget on Gulool Ja

It really had little emotional impact for me for the Erenville/Krile/Wuk scene/s because of that, lack of emotion, no deep hugs, no real tears, even when Gurool ja was passing, It was more just a "DAAAAMN ITTTTTT!" feeling i got from it, Maybe we're not meant to feel too bad for these characters, i don't know.
