You’re calling others dramatic and over the top and then dropping hyperbolic posts like this? You should probably take a step back and re-engage later more civilly. If such a small face change has people up in arms and sobbing all night (in another thread a poster literally claimed that), what will happen when the servers eventually go down?!
Or what do you say to your partner in life if he/she changes her make-up, hairstyle .. or heaven forbid: grows old and wrinkly.
"Sorry honey, your face has changed beyond recognition!" ...
It IS unhealthy, every psychologist will confirm this to you.
Yeah I'm not too thrilled with the shiny lips and the Cataract eyes myself. I deliberately picked "no lipstick" when I created my kitten and always loved her big, bottomless pupils.
But it's not the end of the world. Realistically, human lips do have a little shine to them. Certainly not "changed beyond recognition" WTF.

I gotta agree. In every way the new face 2 for Femroe has been a downgrade to me. It's less expressive, the features are wrong, the cheeks look puffy and for some emotes, the forehead and mouth twitch, it's like they made the features the wrong shape and now expressions don't work for them anymore.
It's like they didn't QA at all and that they put it out for us to do the QA for them and I'm quite frankly exhausted by it.

There are definitely character creation options that didn't receive equal care (and plenty of examples of facial features being changed for no apparent reason). I mean, mine looks weirdly beady-eyed now in the thumbnail right there, like she does in the character select screen. I'm at least lucky it's better in most in-game areas and in motion. Changing the eyebrow option helped a little. But also it seemed a lot of the hairstyles I used to like now make the face look lifeless depending on how they shade it.
Also annoyingly, there are those in-game rooms that still have shit lighting for character models and it might actually look even worse now. I had kind of hoped they'd have done something to deal with the weird face geometry/normals that seem to happen with direct overhead lighting, or whatever it is exactly that still causes problems. It's not just my character either: When we first see the twins' models in the annex room, I had a pretty visceral "yikes" reaction. Thankfully they look nowhere as bad rest of the game, but it is pretty funny they chose that to be the extremely unflattering spot to reveal them.
I'm just afraid they won't fix the issues people are bringing up, because, well, clock is kind of ticking and constantly changing our characters' faces back and forth will get jarring fast.

Forums have completely devolved. We need more mods in here to get things back to being civilized.

Got it. Well I can't lie and say I agree with the eyes looking dead, but I have a much better understanding of where people are coming from on that issue now. Thank you for the explanation! In the case of my example, the enlarged pupils, the higher position of the iris (as opposed to being in the center before) and way that the eye texture appears are the main reasons. While not necessarily something I have thought about too much, the catchlight probably plays a factor too.
I find the reasoning for the "dead eyes" is different per race but it usually boils down to the eye texture and iris position, (in the case of the pupil size it has only been scaled much larger on Female Au Ra). I would say the dead eye look is most visible to me on Hyur and Au Ra.
EDIT: I haven't been able to find another picture of the iris position being different. Is it only on specific faces?
I see, well I'll have to take your word for it then. That does sound like it would look very odd.

The thread may be childish, but I get where people like this are coming from. Not everyone has the ability to articulate their frustrations equally. I totally understand just feeling upset and not having the words but wanting that frustration and disappointment to be heard.
I’ll try and say what I think they’re feeling in my own words. I do feel that the character updates do not have a consistent level of quality and care across all races and faces. Some were faithful and well executed, while others have glaring issues. Some faces have just had the original art direction scrapped entirely, to apply “doll like” makeovers. That in particular has been a disappointment to me and many others. I also feel nearly across the board, faces look duller and less focused. “Bright” expressions are gone and I see a lot of characters who looked confident and bold before now look unfocused, like they’re staring off into space. From what was shown during media tours and live-letters as well as what was promised, I feel we received an end result that doesn’t live up to expectations. I would like to see more consistency and attention to detail for every face equally. If that wasn’t possible in the time they had, they should have taken more time. Something the industry has been proving over and over is that it’s better to take extra time than release things half finished. Updating the characters people have been attached to for years is incredibly delicate and sensitive work, and needed to be pulled off perfectly. It wasn’t. The divided fan reaction this expansion is unsurprising.

Now that we look cool
you want to remove our beauty?
hope is the first step on the road to disappointment

I like my character as is, thank you
