Secondary dye channel - a plea for new and retroactive items

Please, please... when you elect a certain "area" of the item to take on the secondary dye, think about the size of the area receiving the color.

Sometimes the secondary dye channel literally affects a tiny detail that is barely visible instead of a more obvious undyable part.

I'll put an example of the Pictomancer's casaque: the secondary channel dyes a small detail of the sash instead of the obvious black undershirt, or even the copper jewelry.

EDIT: I forgot that jacket also dyes the paint stains on the sleeves with the secondary channel (I cover them up so I didn't notice), but the point remains still for many other items with tiny bits of dyeable parts with the secondary channel.

Some of the second dye channels are really baffling and feel unnecessary.

Yeah, this happened to me with that Lvl 1. sweater + scarf. In the past, the scarf became the dye color, and the sweater became a muted version. Now... Channel 1 does the same, and Channel 2 dyes a small metal clasp.

Wow, great job with this, guys.

it feels like they added the second dye channel as marketing but have done the least amount of effort with it. Kind of like some of this game...

A lot of the items chosen for second dye channels are so ridiculous that they really should only added those that are actually decent at this point in development. If we only got a few good items people would have been disappointed but hopeful for the future. Now I just feel like they half-assed it and have hardly any hope for things to get better, given their track record for fixing anything related to glamour.

I mean, portraits were revealed what? Almost two years ago? And they still break if you dare to breathe on your gear.

As some mentioned in another thread. Square is probably afraid at splitting up already merged channels for some reason.

Hence why clearly two different fields still share the same dye slow while the 2nd slot covers minor doodads.

This one was posted on reddit:

Honestly hope they go back and readjust them - some are just ridiculous and I hate how gear that can very obviously be split to be dyed in two has a button or a zipper as the second dye channel.

Sigh, they should have gone ham and made it 4 dye channels by default.

Looking at the vanguard medium there is a bunch of sections.

    For MNK/SAM:
    Linings: Pink
    Sweater front: Gray
    Sweater Back: Black
    Vest body: Black
    Vest arms: Black
    Vest cuffs: Orange
    Belts: Orange
    Vest Inner: Orange

What of these things are dyable?

    1. Vest Body/Cuffs
    2. Belts.

Aka, you have to pick colors that matches the black t-shirt, pink linings, black vest sleeves and orange vest-inside.

Why couldn't the vest inner share the same dye slot as the belts? Why isn't the vest cuffs part of the belt slot since it's also orange?

Why is only the vests body dyed and not the arms?

Had it been 4 dye slots they could have also included a dye for the seams and a dye for the sweater.

For the older sets I'm guessing they didn't want to mess with what players currently had dyed, since it would mean to achieve the same look many players would need to either spend real money for premium dyes or have those dyes applied automatically (for free) from SE. I'm guessing both of those options were shot down.

Which is disappointing but at least Greed is a more understandable reason than believing they actually think the original channels looked good.

What's confusing is why the new gear also has terrible dye channels.
Like the example above where two parts of the tiny vest are what is dyed instead of the black and yellow of the jacket which (I had thought) would be the obvious choice.

Similarly the DNC 100AF has horrific dye channels, and I think this is largely in part to the sleeve being part of the chest piece instead of being the arm/glove slot. It also loses a significant amount of its saturation. It's Bad.

Meanwhile a lot of armor refuses to part with red accents. There's so much red.

Originally I was bent that so much of the fending/heavy gear prioritizes metal over the cloth parts but I understand why they chose this, though I do think they can work around it going forward if they plan the dye channels during concept.

I just hope they continue introducing new versions of older sets, but with updated dye channels... 3rd time's a charm, right?

The second channel on the Free Spirit's Cropped Slops is the tiny amount of fringe on the bottom of the pants... It's ridiculous.
