I generally find the pirate wench to be the least likeable and unrealistic of the characters.

This is so stupid, you saw a 30 second summary of the story in the trailer, it's obviously not the same as experiencing it yourself.I couldn't help but notice what the new trailer did. It shows what happens between 1.0 to 2.0. It says who did what, where we went, how we survived. Now I am a little irritated by this. Wasn't the whole point of paying to play during 1.0 was to have a unique one-time storyline as a reward, that people who didn't pay for it don't get to see.
So since you started payments, the storyline hasn't been too inspiring excluding one or two parts. It's easily forgettable, most parts often repeat with thing as "Darnus needs to be stopped". You could have missed 90% of the story and not have to worry about it. That is very unappealing.
So we get a chocobo, and a discount on the price. That's cool, but I was looking forward to the story-line more. Now I question why I played all this time, when the story can now be viewed in one trailer.
I personally thought Don't Shoot The Messenger, United We Stand and To Kill a Raven were excellent quests at least and pretty damn memorable. That's just me though.

Yep, OP is usually an interesting poster. This is disappointing. This is so stupid, you saw a 30 second summary of the story in the trailer, it's obviously not the same as experiencing it yourself.

People that start playing after 2.0 are going to look at the game's world and wish they had been a part of it. I'm sure what happens now will be crucial to the story of 2.0, like the attack on Ala Mihgo. Players will here a lot about it, but only those of us that stuck it out can say we were there. Isn't that enough?
This thread is one of the worst complaints I've seen.
Even if you never played a single day of FFXI, or even if you never played a single FF game at all you can go online and read or watch the stories from all of them.
FFXIV has a nice story I think, and it will continue to develop. You aren't paying to play just for that story - there are all sorts of experiences and fun playing the game you can have. What is this anyway?
Whining just for the sake of it.What is this anyway?
At least I give my reasons versus other people who start threads without a reason to upset about things.
The website trailer was a spoiler to me, and I feel they could have started the new players at the beginning of 2.0 story, rather than tell them what happened at the end of our story. They should have been left in the dark.
The story is the biggest point of the game to me. The experience everyone talks about was not their for me. The grand comapnies were a major let down. Yes you do some cool things, but compared to the military might I wanted to see wasn't their.
Look at campaign battles in FFXI. You had Valaineral R Davilles who could take on an entire unit of enemies and win. What do you see if no one is fighting the Garlean Empire by the city-states? Them all standing their doing nothing, how is that an interesting story to you all?
Fighting the primals seeing Nael at the end of Ifrit and Garuda was the most interesting parts. The actual story behind Garuda and Ifrit before the fights didn't spark my interest.
All I was able to get out of this is that you weren't satisfied with the game you paid for, so you don't want any new players to know what happened before they started playing?
This whole idea is like reading a book, finding out it's being made into a movie then being mad when other people are able to see the plot in the movie trailer.
In reality, you're not going to be able to bring new players into a game if you can't capture their interest, and many people wouldn't be able to feel immersed if they were just tossed into a game without knowing any back story.
Your reasons aren't very good, so there isn't much difference.
Why would you watch a 2.0 trailer if you haven't done the events leading up to 2.0? Unless you don't mean to use the word "spoiler" here. The website trailer was a spoiler to me
That's crap and you know it. "Hey the world is destroyed but we can't actually tell you why and there's an empire attacking but we can't actually tell you why and there's a bunch of summons from other final fantasies running around but we can't actually tell you why, etc. etc." Would be a shitpile of a game. However, all the players would probably go to a wiki and find out the backstory anyways, so it's not like it matters if SE tells them to or not. You're just making a bad point here.and I feel they could have started the new players at the beginning of 2.0 story, rather than tell them what happened at the end of our story. They should have been left in the dark.
And yet you want 2.0 to be completely disjointed from the original game, to the point where they'd have to make everything so absolutely not-based off 1.0 that experiencing 1.0 was nothing. The story is the biggest point of the game to me.
That's a personal opinion and you are in the minority there. I personally enjoyed the GC quests despite how awful the running around was. It had some good lore and was so much better than that crap we got when the game was released. The experience everyone talks about was not their for me. The grand comapnies were a major let down.
That was the point. You claim to enjoy the story but fail to see that the point of the story was that we didn't have enough military might to stop the Garlean empire.Yes you do some cool things, but compared to the military might I wanted to see wasn't their.
That wasn't the story.Look at campaign battles in FFXI. You had Valaineral R Davilles who could take on an entire unit of enemies and win. What do you see if no one is fighting the Garlean Empire by the city-states? Them all standing their doing nothing, how is that an interesting story to you all?
Again, a personal opinion. If fighting actual gods and killing them is not interesting to you, then you will likely be disappointed no matter what.Fighting the primals seeing Nael at the end of Ifrit and Garuda was the most interesting parts. The actual story behind Garuda and Ifrit before the fights didn't spark my interest.
