FFXIV Dawntrail reviews are out on Metacritic

User reviews are strange things anyway. I just finished reading through many pages of Dawntrail reviews on Steam, and I found that even a lot of the positive thumbs-up reviews are, in what they write, kind of negative, more than a few amounting to people saying how there is a lot wrong with this expansion but they still love FFXIV enough to recommend it. That is.. not exactly a glowing endorsement?

So although the ratio of ups and downs is 'mixed', the written user reviews might actually lean even more negative.

The critic score is entirely irrelevant, but a 7.1 userscore? I dunno... The fights weren't entirely bad, and we had some amazing tracks... But the story had more issues than good parts.

Reading through, the vast majority of the 0 user scores are either hyperbolic nonsense or very obvious trolling. At least a good bit of the 1s-4s have actual valid grievances though.

Also we should keep in mind that review bombing goes both ways. Lots of people are mobilized to defend the game right now, not that I could tell you why. Being critical is the only way for the game to improve, did we learn nothing from 1.0? In the words of Yoshi-P himself: "A complaint is worth twice a compliment."

Its not that hard to understand why. I personally find Wuk Lamat's voice acting to have been very subpar. But I have friends and FC mates who feel it fits perfectly and enjoy the character immensely. People have differing opinions on things and just as those who dislike something should voice their complaints, those that enjoy something should defend it if they choose to.

Kind of reminds me of what you see with a lot of TV shows that start out strong but then start going drown the drain fast. Hell, I was one of the people who was coping through all the warning signs with Game of Thrones up until like season 5 or 6, saying exactly stuff like that pretending my own opinion was still overall positive. Of course by the time of season 8 I was already enjoying the vindication, as all the problems some others were still ignoring blew up all at once.

I just hope it doesn't come down to that, though honestly I kind of started to get that same GoT season 5-6 vibe in EW. I still feel like I'm taking crazy pills being the only one seeing the smoking keg of writing problems. But as much as I enjoy getting to say "I told you so", I'd enjoy this game pulling up and staying good more.

It's 100% being review bombed by Grummz and his cult, just look at how many 0s citing "woke" and "sbi" as the main reason. Hell, I even saw one of Titanmen's old account names somewhere there lol

People can go on Metacritic and see for themselves that most of the negative reviews are not touching on culture war topics, in fact the majority do not even mention the VA.

And please count how many of the 0-score reviews are transphobic because I looked at ten of them and found literally zero transphobic reviews.

As for negative reviews in general, I only found two transphobic ones out of the dozens I've read.

People writing reviews you don't like isn't review bombing.

If you're that concerned, do your moral duty and report the transphobic ones, as I've done. You'll see the user score inch up by 0.1 or 0.2 at best once they get deleted.

0 is a valid score. If it wasn't then it wouldn't be an option to use. If people are leaving 0s, then maybe they feel it is deserved and they want their voice heard. A review bomb is articially inflating reviews that are not real people. These are real people who have been that dissapointed right?
