The game is doing fine . Many people are still playing and enjoying itI wonder how close we are to the point of no return in that trust thermocline since there are already some warning signs.
DT seems to be the lowest rated XIV product since 1.0, the job reception so far is mixed to negative, the promises haven't been met so far, msq is divisive at best, contand negativity towards the game is more common than it has been in the last years
As a healer main in this game for nigh on 14 years all I can say is that I’m tired. My role has been eroded of complexity and expression for 3 expansions. I’ve watched the tanks do my role for me for 2 expansions and my feedback and critiques continue to fall on deaf ears.
I have no idea who modern healers are designed for but I know now it’s not me. This is the first expansion I’m truly considering dropping the healer role and not returning, so if that was the goal- congratulations I guess
I think you, like many people, misunderstand the purpose of negative feedback on these forums. The vast majority of people criticising the game don't hate the game as a whole. If we did, we wouldn't be around anymore, right? People point out things that can be improved BECAUSE WE LIKE THE GAME but we want it to be the best possible version of itself. I'm still playing and (mostly) enjoying the game. The saving grace of Dawntrail has been the battle content for me, by far. But you know what would make me enjoy the game even more? The MSQ not being garbage and jobs I used to main being fun again.
I don't think you understand what the Trust Thermocline WaxSw mentioned is about. It's actually an interesting theory, one which I believe is generally correct. The tl;dr, because I doubt you'll actually look it up is that things are "doing fine" until they're not. Exoduses from games, platforms, or other services are generally slow at first, then all of a sudden they turn quick and brutal. Look at mySpace, WoW during Shadowlands, Helldivers 2, Mobile Strike, etc... These were all doing fine, until they weren't. Generally from a combination of their own ineptitude and a better product coming along. Yes, XIV is "doing fine" and probably will for a while, but all that's really needed are a couple more patches (maybe another expansion) which are mediocre, along with a viable competitor being released at the right time to irreparably damage the game.

The problem, Do'Urden, is that Dawntrail has put the game on shakey ground. At any point in time the wrong decision could cause the entire thing to come down. Before Dawntrail this wasn't the case, they could afford mistakes and the player base would shake them off. I get the feeling they thought the graphic update would garner them more good will than it actually did.Because peoples don't stop playing MMORPG on a whim (for most).
It's a long process, but once it's started, 9 times out of 10 it's unstoppable. Dawntrail isn't close to being what could cause this for now but ignoring complaint could lead to that if the story remain divisive.
Most likely you're right and they still have a couple mid to meh expansions before the riots start but the sort of ill will they starting to foster could cause one bad expansion to be the breaking point. Hopefully they realize this and course correct but...this being modern day Squenix I sort of doubt it.
Not sure what happened but the Metacritic User Score plummeted to 5.2 following a wave of deleted user ratings. Over 200 user ratings were deleted.
The Legends of the Titanmen lives on, a shining example of the power of compassion and the ability of people to make a difference in the world. A reminder that even in the darkest of times, there is always hope, as long as there are heroes like the Titanmen who dare to do good deeds in Eorzea.
I'm not one to trust anything from Metacritic in either direction, but something to keep in mind (that journalists don't want to talk about) is that review bombing goes both ways. Depending on the product, there will be corporate simps and paid shills that will influence votes. This is why I generally stick to sites where you can't leave a review unless you actually purchased the product. Those types of reviews can still be manipulated, but to less of a degree, and that manipulation will usually drop inversely with the price of the product.

I think it was just reddit and twitter countering what they perceived as review bombing funny enough even though perception for the expansion overall is more in line with the 5.2 score now that the dust has settled.I'm not one to trust anything from Metacritic in either direction, but something to keep in mind (that journalists don't want to talk about) is that review bombing goes both ways. Probably removed some 10s that didn't actually review the expansion that were there just to artificially boost the score to "own the gamers".
