FFXIV Dawntrail reviews are out on Metacritic

Just glancing at the user scores there are a lot of 0s which just makes me think they are pretty irrelevant too. There are a lot of reasons for people to hate the game but "woke" and "sweet baby inc" just aren't it, nor is the game a 0 by any means. Just glancing at the 0s makes me thing it is being bot spammed.

If you look through reviews there are a lot of 0s and 10s that are clearly reviewbombing and then counter bombing, but a lot of real reviews with gripes are in the 4-7 range, which is probably fair for the story of this expansion. It just was not up to the standard we expect from CBU3 at this point.

Those should be ignored, for sure, whether it's the work of a "cult" or an individual review crying about the same things. What is left should be what we need to look at.

Oh, for sure. Grips with MSQ notwithstanding, the game is certainly not a 0. A 0 means the game is utterly unplayable. Dawntrail is certainly not the case.

I'd probably give DT a 4 myself, but just because of the story. Everything else has actually been pretty great, in my opinion.

The Xbox version might actually be a 0 right now, since that version is bordering on unplayable with the current state of memory issues. What's strange is that platform has the highest reviews of them all.

The fact that Stormblood scored higher than Heavensward is enough for me to not take Metacritic seriously.

I've yet to touch Dawntrail but besides Wuk Lamat, everyone seems pretty happy with the dungeons/music/art design of the expansion.

7/10 seems way too harsh. Then again, I haven't played it yet so what do I know?

It's all super subjective for sure, and I think you should definitely ignore the 0s and at least the scores of the 10s. If you read the 10s a lot of them have a real score in them as like you said they are trying to counter the stupid review bombing. I personally would put it at around a 6 or a 7 right alongside EW and the baseline SB MSQ for me. I think we give way too high of scores for a lot of things and should be more realistic with a 5 being average instead of like a 7 or 8 being average.

The story is a total 0 to me. It actively makes me want to go do literally anything else regularly. Any other expansion, I would have been done during Early Access...

It's review bombing both ways, or it's not review bombing both ways. I would give this expansion a legitimate zero. It is the worst Job design we have ever had, with the worst story we have ever had, and the worst voice acting we have ever had. The only redeeming quality so far in the entire expansion is the trials. And even then, they're so poorly designed that they can be duoed by two tanks.

This expansion has zero going for it. Even the music is completely crap this time around. It's still Soken at his best, but nearly none of the tracks fit the tonal theme of the areas they're in. It's really jarring how bad it is.
