Role Quests are boring

At least the DT caster role quest gave me a reason for doing it as a caster (to have someone tank and me going full nuke).
EW said they needed a battlemage but not once was it needed.

I don't really have a problem with the comedy and would find it great normaly. With the forced Hildibrand quests in EW and the unfunny comedy in 6.x as well as in DT it's beginning to overstay it's welcome though.

It's better to look at the EW roles quests as a brief intermission intended near the end of the campaign while we wait for the space-ship getting fixed. Like "go check out how city states are faring while we fix things up".

So it as less about the roles themselves and more about the city states.
But unlike ShB they didn't force us to do them.
