Primal Wrath & Wrathful Stacks (WAR)

I was very content that Warrior got an additional OGCD because the job was becoming a bit too stale but I'm completely conflicted by the decision to gate it behind the Wrathful stack system.

At the moment I don't see any purpose as to why the wrathful stacks gate is necessary. the purpose of an OGCD is to not operate like a GCD but gating it effectively makes it a pseudo-GCD action causing Primal Wrath to feel a bit clunky.

Why not just make Primal Wrath become available the moment you use Inner Release, it would feel better.

Or if we still want to incorporate the Wrathful Stacks system at the very least let the increase in stacks have a positive effect on Primal Wrath (e.g. the more stack you acquire from fell cleave the more damage Primal Wrath Will do)

But blocking me from executing Primal Wrath just feels bad, it a new skill (and OGCD at that) I should be using it as much as possible.

This is a big reason why I'm considering not playing warrior in future patches. After pressing Inner Release, you have 15 seconds to use all 3 charges of Fell Cleave, but if I follow the "Standard opener", the 3rd charge is spent at the very end of those 15 seconds. Meaning, if I have to walk out of range to throw a tomahawk at any point in the burst (very common scenario), I can't use the 3rd charge in time and I lose Primal Wrath. It doesn't feel good. The only other tank I've played at level 100 is paladin and it's much more forgiving in this respect.

I suspect from their perspective they want both the "challenge", but also the "flexibility" and the "reward".

Challenge: You get Inner Release. You now have 5 GCDs in which to use 3 Fell Cleaves, which we'll give you for free, but you still gotta use them.
Flexibility: Which of the 5 GCDs are your FCs is your pick, plus we give you Feller Cleave that gapcloses and Fellest Cleave, and hey in theory you could even use those first since they're just two GCDs.
Reward: You get to punch the earth.

I guess it works fine? It's comparable to Paladin oGCD after Swordgasm combo every minute, in a lot of ways? I've certainly never felt like its a burder, after all fitting 3 FCs into 5 GCDs on a job as sparse on abilities as Warrior is not exactly rocket science. You'd also not be using it more if it got available immediately. In fact one could argue this helps, as it ensures you don't waste it on pull before the buff window is up.

This is false, and I don't know where you got this information from. Someone must have had some fun telling you what the opener is. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

    The standard opener is:

    * GCDs 1-3: One round of Storm's Eye combo, you need the buff. At any point, ideally right on the pull (so before GCD #1), press Infuriate.
    * On GCD #3, press Inner Release (and pot if you want to pot).
    * GCD 4: Inner Chaos
    * GCDs 5-7: Fell Cleave, weave Onslaught if not needed elsewhere
    * On GCD #7, press Primal Wrath and Infuriate
    * The rest is pretty obvious.

One thing here, you can actually move FCs to 4-6 and IC to 7, if wanted. Depending on timing you clip ~2,5s worth of Infuriate CD, which in most fights doesn't actually result in losing an IC use (and even then the damage difference is marginal over a whole fight). Whether to do that or not depends on how early abilities in fights play out and how later abilities align with your burst windows.

In either case, you got plenty of GCDs in which to use 3 FCs then Primal Wrath. Usually you use Primal Wrath just after the middle of Inner Release's duration.
