No longer able to catch any fish at level 100

I'm no longer able to catch any fish after hitting level 100 in Dawntrail. I'm wearing HQ item level 690 fishing rod, gear, and accessories. I thought maybe something was just off for me in Dawntrail, so I went back to La Noscea and I can't even catch a simple fish there. I even tried re-equipping my old pentamelded Indagator's set and still nothing. Any help would be appreciated.

Are you unable to even cast or are you just getting the "fish got away" message?

If you're unable to cast, do you have a bait or lure selected?

Some more detail about exactly what is happening would be helpful.

Hi! I get the “you lose your bait” and the fish flees.” I tried the bait that was specific to the fish I wanted and also versatile lure. It started in a Dawntrail area when I reached level 100. I assumed it was because I was using pentamelded Indagator’s iL620, so I geared up to the highest craftable level 100 (iL 690) gear. Still couldn’t catch anything, so I tried a bunch of other holes in Dawntrail. Still nothing. Then I tried low level fishing holes in ARR and Heavensward. Still nothing.

Are you using Patience or Patience II by chance?

I tried with and without. The part that’s weird is that it’s even happening in really low level fishing holes.

It sounds like maybe your character is glitched into the state where fish always flee because you've spent too long at a specific spot. By any chance, did you push your luck at a single spot once you reached 100 to trigger that state normally? I know I came close to it (just wanted 1 more fish while Patience II was still active) but didn't push it to the point they started fleeing. If you did, I'll give it a try myself since I rarely fish outside what I need for CUL and can always buy what I need from others if I also get stuck.

Otherwise, you've tried all the things I probably would have suggested (changing gear, location, bait/lure).

I think this is going to require a bug report to get corrected one way or the other. It seems to be outside of normal mistakes.

I wasn’t there long enough that I can recall and the fish didn’t grow wary of my presence. I reported it as a bug. We’ll see what happens! Thank you so much for your help!!!

Are you using the appropriate bait? Does this happen with Versatile Lure?

Hello!!

I found this thread because my mother was having a very similar issue. I can't say if it's the same, but check your battle effects and see if you have them toggled off! It will prevent the exclamation points from showing and make the fishing experience seem buggy.

Hopefully whatever was causing it for you was an easy fix and is taken care of!

Is that why my exclamation point disappeared? Thank you, I never would have guessed it was a battle effect. Will try adjusting that when I log in next.
