The problem with the Warrior of light (msq spoilers)

I'm almost finished dt now and... Good god. The wol is so out of place in this story. You can tell the writers have no idea what to do with him. He is an unchecked killing machine capable of felling entire armies and shaping the rulers of nations. Thank god he's on the good side.

But he's also... in the way? And as a result he's utterly useless in the contribution of the story. This was without a doubt the only msq besides hw. That made me genuinely angry at how op and abused the wols power is. Wuk lamat carries him/her around like a rottweiler on a liesh waiting to sick them on whoever challenges her authority

But why don't I feel this way for arr/stb/shb and ew? Simple. There was somebody to keep him in check. Whether it was lahabrea, the black wolf zenos or zodiark. There was allways a feeling that we were smaller than the danger around us. But in the absence if zenos; who was only killed because they ran out of ideas for him. The wol feels like a broken unbalanced unchecked nuke waiting to rip anyone and anything to shreds.

On shb I think they did the best job at humanising him. He couldn't do it on his own but he sure tried. Ardbert was such a great character. Because he was ur wol if he could speak. He was pretending to be strong all the time, but carrying so much pain. And when you needed him he was there for you in every way. I miss when my character felt so flawed and human.

Please. Msq team. Deal with this.. because I cannot deny its half ruined msq for me. Just find some way to power balance him again so that I can actually invest some level of care into his wellbeing

I agree with you. It wasn’t just Wuk Lamat that was the problem but also the place of our character in the story.

I didn‘t even think about those points of yours but for all the flaws Zenos had or Ardbert as a plot device they were good counterparts to integrate the WoL into the setting.

Either they learn how to use our power better in the story and write around it or the WoL needs some kind of check, like a seal for example.
Maybe even use politics because that’s still our weakness. They had the stuff with body swapping.
Why not „clone“ the WoL with a soul from someone we already forgot or that is dead? Like Illbert.
Or use it on one of the Emet Selch clones.

That one could do heinous stuff and we could lose support in some form and even try to reforge our reputation.

Not saying these are good ideas, they are probably even more stupid.
But it would be better then being nonexistent.

I'd go so ham on a story where my wol is a villain. When ew dangled that idea over my head I knew it was a mighty need. Watching him destroying everything he's built. Abusing his power and laying waste to the scions only for our actual wol to have to rise up to him. Sounds epic tbh. Perhaps if they won't use our character ( which only would be a waste of character development) then use a wol from another shard. One that's even more stronger and broken than us. Who tried failed and decided to walk the path of ruin. It wouldn't be the first time in cannon a wol betrayed Hydaelyn

My biggest gripe with how the MSQ handled my WoL this time around is that it keeps turning him into an idiot. It's one thing for Wuk Lamat to be naive and trusting but surely after Ilberd...but no. You know it's bad when Alisae of all people is being the voice of reason.

We were just an emotional support puppy for Wuk and nothing more. The whole story could have happened without us there an it wouldn't have changed anything.

For the first third of the story I was kinda fine with that. Lizard Daddy dearest outright says to the WoL that its not a race, but a learning experience for the candidates. That means that the Scions actually were there as emotional / moral support and not to play kingmaker, so the WoL checking out was - while not exciting - logical.

It only got extremely grinding on the gears when shit got real in the story, and WoL&co forgot to switch their brains back on.

I think part of the problem is that they made Tural a wonderland that has no actual issues. The merchants are a bit pushy, but they are not going to really try to swindle you. The Hanuhanu are going hungry, but only because they apparently don't talk to each other, since some of them *knew* about the purpose of the festival. The giants are all nice except these three guys that might as well be wearing leather jackets and being the local troublemakers. The Mamool Ja are idiots that never considered trading and experimenting with different seeds, and needed to prop a Mamool Ja candidate to solve their issues (despite the fact that the current ruler is a Mamool Ja that should be intimately aware of their problems)

And so you have this trial where you can see everyone, even Thancred and Urianger are just playing along and going with the flow because there's absolutely zero stakes. There's nothing to do until Bakool Ja Ja pulls a Bakool Ja Ja and makes things slightly more interesting.
