    Relic Weapons-Broken Promises

1UP: A couple things in the game right now that seem to be, as Final Fantasy XI players might say, are "haunted by the ghost of Tanaka." For example, the Relic weapon quests that were just added yesterday seem to rely very heavily on luck. And this kind of thing is really discouraging to a lot of players. An element of luck is okay, but effort is more important. And there's always the thought that, yeah, if I do this enough times, I might get lucky and get it, but there's always the fear that they won't. Especially after the Ifrit and other boss battles. I know people say that they fought 75 times and they haven't gotten a weapon yet, and they're just really frustrated, and they're upset to see that same thing happening in other systems. So are there any plans to adjust the luck/effort balance of high-level content in the future?

NY: We can tell you that at version 2.0, a lot of things are going to be changing in this aspect. For example, like a token type of system, where if you do it enough times, you're going to get rewarded for doing it that many times. We also have something else prepared as well that's going to address this... we can't talk about it now, but we have many things in place that will address that issue.

And the other thing being that, the real need for the Need, Greed, and Pass type of system when things get dropped, things that are pretty much a global standard that we haven't achieved yet on Final Fantasy XIV. We understand that we have those problems, but with the current system, we can't address them. But we will be able to address them in 2.0 with the new system and the new engines. And so you can go back and tell the community that, come 2.0, we will actually have that global standard and you won't have to worry as much about these types of things. But again, that doesn't mean we're going to forget about our current version players. We're going to listen to the voices of the players, look at the forums, adjust drop rates to reduce as much stress as possible for the players so they can experience this grand finale, the Seventh Umbral Era story, that ushers in 2.0.

Hi yoshi I just want you to stand by your word
The relic quest has been out for almost two months now and there have been no dev replies in regards to the relic quest double melding stage. Can you atleast acknowledge it is severely unbalanced?

Why should I be disadvantaged by going after the bard or paladin relic
that requires a rarer materia compared to the manathirst and mind materia
    required for monk and whitemage?

Wouldn't handing in 5 single melded mailbreakers/sarngas achieve the same result the
    devs have intended?

Hypothetically players could just be stumped on this stage as each double meld attempt is a mutually exclusive event with a minimum 77% chance to fail.(ie each failed attempt does not improve your next attempt) Similar to the point expressed by the interviewer- "if I do this enough times, I might get lucky and get it, but there's always the fear that they won't."

Does SE expect players to have 30million+ gil to buy the weapons premelded?

I would welcome any adjustments to the double meld stage such as-
hand in X amount of single melded tier 4 weapons
change the bard or paladin materia required so the price/demand is reduced.

So please Yoshi show that you listen to the players.

I think they did that on purpose...for all the people who easily made gil can dump it into this quest. I am having no part of it...my main job isn't even out yet (Summoner) and I don't really care about the current jobs lol. Also don't forget, Legendary weapons (the true "relics", apparently..according to interviews and the PDF) are coming in 2.0, so I would save for that =P Is what I am doing.

But yeh it seems like a massive gil sink...I've seen people on here claim they had 200m and then they ended up with 20k when they were done >.>

I thought they also said they were going to fix the whole rng crap also for 2.0.

Does SE expect players to have 30million+ gil to buy the weapons premelded?
Apparently...or spend forever spirit binding/farming. Sorry but imho the stats on those weapons are not worth such a massive time sink. Also inb4 I am poor/can't afford to do it, I have enough gil saved up to meld all the weapons...just not wasting it with this silly quest.

This is a Relic we are talking about here. Not a pet snurble. You can't just take the concept of one weapon and complain complain complain until you get your way. Some things in this game have to be difficult to achieve to retain any semblance of long term goals. Beleive it or not, having some things that is going to take you a long time to achieve regardless of the reasons is actually healthy for the game.

Next I'm going to hear you wanting a guarantee that you beat Ifrit Extreme in your first five tries.

Please, research your means before you start complaining. If you're after a relic you could always spirit bond items for gil or for the Meterial you need. Raw items are cheaply made and sold and can wind up being quite profitable to spirit bind and convert.

Alternatively if you don't want to be a crafter, there are multiple places in which you can farm for cash-cow monsters.

The Double Melded class specific weapons are not nearly the barrier you're trying to play them out to be. Save up, or find yourself a crafter and go for it yourself. Relics are designed to challenge a player at multiple aspects of the game, to achieve a weapon that is supposed to be superior to all others. Work for what you get.

And if you don't, then go for one of the many, many alternatives that are in the game now, or are coming from Skirmish.

In reality its not really a gill sink as gil is getting redistributed to the players who play the wards for greed.
