Before starting things off I just want to mention that I felt so compelled by this topic and issue that I made my forum account just to post this. Also, I am only at level 90 of Viper so far but I don't feel like much of what I have to say will change much when I do reach 100. But, that being said, if anything I say doesn't apply to Viper at 100 then please correct me.
There's a few things I really appreciate about Viper's design. Mainly with its rotation and how it flows and fits so well with the class' aesthetic. Especially as a big fan of Monster Hunter and Insect Glaive c:
I think 1-2 swapping back and forth combos are excellent.Yes, the glowing buttons guide you through pretty much the whole rotation, but I think that's ultimately fine given how fast paced everything is. I then realized something earlier today when discussing this with a friend. The combo is going back and forth between 1 and 2, back and forth between duel blades and combined staff, left right left right with your buttons.... side to side, like a snake! I might be reading too much into this, but I think it's truly an amazing example of baking class identity into the rotation to make it unique.
On top of that I just really enjoy the fast paced action of the class, it's something I particularly love about MCH, which is currently the only DPS class I like enough to play regularly.
On to the proposed changes
I truly.. truly don't understand why they would announce the "easing" of some of Viper's positionals barely a week after launch.
Everything I've heard, from content creators to every friend and acquaintance I've spoken to in FF about Viper have mostly all said the same thing.Viper is simple, but high tempo. So then why would they feel it necessary to reduce its positionals? Where was the outcry from the community demanding that Viper be toned down? And why would they react so quickly to it?
Even if the majority of the community was saying that Viper was too complex or difficult why would they announce changes so early? They announced these changes barely two days after the official launch. The vast majority of the player base has probably only recently even gotten their Vipers to lvl 100 and maybe doing some of the first extremes. Why not wait until at least the first savage tier drops to see how this new class fares in more challenging content before deciding to make changes?
It all feels too reactionary. If they listened to whatever feedback led them to thinking making the class simpler than it already is would be a good idea. Then I hope that if enough people say otherwise that they'll be able to reverse their decision. If not before the changes, then hopefully sometime after.
Let me know if I'm misunderstanding anything. Even if they don't reverse course, I'll still be satisfied having at least said something.
