This happens to Hrothgars as well (On Female it does on my end, but im sure the male also suffers the same). I imagen that the chest piece have teh tail slot ticked to remove it (Similar to how some fully covering helmets have head ticked to remove the head to avoid clipping).

I was disapointed after farming the armor set for hours, only to see the tail vanish.
