What is up with FFXIV killing or friging female NPC's? (Spoilers)

Has no one told Yoshi about the Women in Refrigerator trope? or does he know about it and just doesn't care. It's like every expansion a semi-major to a major female NPC has to die. It's getting old and tiring. From MoonBryde. to Ysale, then we have Melfinlia, and by Endwalker we pretty much end up with a sausagefest. But do they kill one of the male scions, nope, because we got to make sure we get the 1800th bada$$ scene of Estinen and Thancred. So, what do get, we get the most stupid death of them all with Venat.

From that, I literally turned off the game and am struggling to want to play it. So I came to ask, does this same trope take place in Dawntrail. I purchased Dawntrail,but if this keeps happening, I don't want to play anymore.

LOL Papalymo was already dead by Endwalker. Though I'll be honest, I was never a big fan of Papalymo to begin with. I much prefer Urinager.

We just going to forget that Papalymo sacrificed himself at the end of Heavensward in an attempt to stop Shinryu or…? And he’s barely been mentioned since by anyone that wasn’t Lyse. I was shocked when he made an appearance at the end of Endwalker in Aitiascope and as one of the Voices of the Past because everyone forgets about him.

Unrelated to just the Scions since you brought up Venat, I guess we’ll also ignore how Haurchefant was killed in Heavensward; and how his death really impacted the WoL. How the Warriors of Darkness were all dead by the time they showed up in Patch 3.4, and Ardbert is probably one of the most important NPCs when it comes to the WoL. Likewise for Emet and Hythlodaeus in Endwalker.


Anyways, I don’t think it’s that deep.

The only thing I will say is that Thancred had the perfect death scene set up in Shadowbringers, but I guess the writers didn’t have the guts to actually follow through with it. And hey, at least Dawntrail was the first expansion Y’shtola didn’t have a fakeout death. Not that Wuk Lamat gives her much screen time or opportunity to set one up.

Plus, the game really puts Venat on a giant pedestal to the point I don't think you understand your own complaint.

Oh I never said that there wasn't male NPC's that died. But we can clearly see that the instance is more common among female NPC's, as indicated towards the end where Endwalker was pretty much a sausagefest. I've discussed in a separate thread about my opinion on Haurchefant death in comparison to Ysale, and how it reminded me of the Avengers treatment of Iron Man vs Black Widow. But that gets into the weeds of the criticism. Ardbert, Emet and Hytholodaeus don't count because the time that they are important you is the time where they're already dead. So you know what's going to happen to them. Venat/Hydaelyn was your most important NPC from the beginning of the game, and you end up killing her which is beyond ridiculous.

I'm not expecting everyone to agree with me. Folks will view it as how they'd like. I'd just like to know if another female NPC gets fridged again in Dawntrail, so I'd know if I should keep playing or not. Cause I don't really feel like playing.
