Out of curiosity, has Yoshi-P commented on all the negativity yet? I wonder how they're going to respond to/address so much frustration with this expansion so far.

It was tried in Guild Wars 2 with Trahearne. Everyone hated it. Even with as bad as the GW2 writing team is, they admitted it was a mistake.Main character syndrome.....Did you make this term up?
This is why people play roleplaying games, to be the star in an imaginary universe.
I'm struggling to think of a single triple A RPG/MMO where the player does NOT control the main character.
Most gamers are not interested in playing a bit part in an interactive novel.
Save the experiment for another title and see how it pans out.
I think it's funny because main character syndrome isn't supposed to be applied to video games at all. MCS is when you think the world and life itself revolves around you IRL which is supposed to be delusional because real life isn't a video game. Applying it to video games is hilarious.
it/its - 14 accessibility is bad, ease of access is not accessibility, jobs are boring. Transphobia ruins real attempts at criticism and it's whack.
i mean; its impossible to play a single player story in a video game and not be the main character just by merit of being, we are the MC, the story is just a dumpster fire.
All I wanted was FF9 references, music, and an ACTUAL golden city. Instead, we got some minor FF9 references, a LOT of my favorite ingame FF9 music, and a charlie-foxtrot of a joke called "the golden city". Wasn't even golden. It was just an entrance. Writing was terrible for the first half of the story. While I loved the music in the middle before the second half started, I was disappointed that the final fight had to have WL in it deciding to break the barrier. Really? Did she become the WoL all of a sudden? Does she have the echo now too? What a joke. But the ED credits of the game (and final music piece) was good. I wish I couldve told her no. Her brother shouldve been the only one who won the right to the throne. 95% of those fetch quests were: kill spawn of enemy, follow stupid npc (because thancred could easily do that), and oh! WAIT HERE... WAIT HERE... WAIT HERE. Why was there a necessary wait time x3 for wuk in the pot village? Why? ONE would've been enough and then a cutscene. Also, way too many cutscenes and not enough battle. What a bother. A lot of situations couldve easily been solved by means of asking Cid and the gang for help, as well as other parts regarding aether. Instead, we have to wait till AFTER all the first half of the story goes down. Why???
If this was all we could get from YoshiP regarding this story-- I'm sorely disappointed in what couldve been a better job (by the same lady who wrote the DRK questline and Shadowbringers). What. A. Joke.
Rating: 5.5/10 (and thats only because of the ff9 music. Otherwise, I wouldve easily given this maybe a 3.1/10 with out) easily.

Thank you for the clarification. I guess I could have looked it up, but it just seemed so ridiculous calling people out for that.I think it's funny because main character syndrome isn't supposed to be applied to video games at all. I had prior guildmates play that game, I never played it myself. It was tried in Guild Wars 2 with Trahearne. Everyone hated it. Even with as bad as the GW2 writing team is, they admitted it was a mistake.
Hearing it was a failure doesnt come as a surprise though.
I mean, sure, there are people that go to Star Wars conventions that like to role play moisture farmers......But Im pretty sure they dont follow Darth Vader around and polish his boots for him.
It certainly doesnt feel like a concept most gamers would enjoy, even if there is a niche for it.

I can't bother to read this whole thread. more so with what seems to be a bunch of deleted stuff missing.
But if I recall correctly,
He felt this coming, even before DT released.
He said something along the lines of the Story following after DT potentially needing to be shifted on which track it takes.
Me personally, Wuk Lamat is fine(a memecat) but like said, our character has a place in the story.
If they actually gave us options to chime in [actually mentor them. Not all of it can be solved by conversing with the enemy. and sometimes, telling the antagonist to let us fng speak to the other Antagonist will let things actually progress], do something, heck, even give us a Combat Solo instance in defense if Tuliyolal like there was for Solution 9. it would of at least given something to relax our judgement alil.
While I hope they only shift how oppressive some characters are. it would be a shame to miss out on whatever they had planned.
Unless it was other npcs being oppressive.
It's ironic you mention that. My favorite MMO ever was Star Wars Galaxies. It was a Sandbox MMO so player interaction was entirely different, and there really wasn't a tight Main Story like with Theme Park MMOs that are the standard today. But at least half the population were crafters, merchants, and dancers (players could only have 1 character per server and had to relevel if they wanted to go with other jobs). There's definitely a market for having little/no story, or to take a backseat to the story in a larger world, but a Narrative focused game like Final Fantasy isn't it.
I played that at release as well. Wasnt my cup of tea (coming from EQ) I do remember them gating which characters could become a Jedi and some mysterious puzzle to figure it out. It's ironic you mention that. Most of my friends quit as it was more crafting intensive than we were looking for.
But like you were saying, it was a sandbox type of game, and as you correctly pointed out, FF certainly isnt that type of game.

The fact that at least 85% of the msq isnt voiced (we're what? 5 expansions in now??) and mostly mute instances of text is also really dumb.
