There's definitely a market for having little/no story, or to take a backseat to the story in a larger world, but a Narrative focused game like Final Fantasy isn't it.
    I played that at release as well. Wasnt my cup of tea (coming from EQ) I do remember them gating which characters could become a Jedi and some mysterious puzzle to figure it out.

    Most of my friends quit as it was more crafting intensive than we were looking for.

    But like you were saying, it was a sandbox type of game, and as you correctly pointed out, FF certainly isnt that type of game.
