I think it's funny because main character syndrome isn't supposed to be applied to video games at all. MCS is when you think the world and life itself revolves around you IRL which is supposed to be delusional because real life isn't a video game. Applying it to video games is hilarious.

Thank you for the clarification. I guess I could have looked it up, but it just seemed so ridiculous calling people out for that.

It was tried in Guild Wars 2 with Trahearne. Everyone hated it. Even with as bad as the GW2 writing team is, they admitted it was a mistake.

I had prior guildmates play that game, I never played it myself.

Hearing it was a failure doesnt come as a surprise though.

I mean, sure, there are people that go to Star Wars conventions that like to role play moisture farmers......But Im pretty sure they dont follow Darth Vader around and polish his boots for him.

It certainly doesnt feel like a concept most gamers would enjoy, even if there is a niche for it.

It's ironic you mention that. My favorite MMO ever was Star Wars Galaxies. It was a Sandbox MMO so player interaction was entirely different, and there really wasn't a tight Main Story like with Theme Park MMOs that are the standard today. But at least half the population were crafters, merchants, and dancers (players could only have 1 character per server and had to relevel if they wanted to go with other jobs). There's definitely a market for having little/no story, or to take a backseat to the story in a larger world, but a Narrative focused game like Final Fantasy isn't it.

I played that at release as well. Wasnt my cup of tea (coming from EQ) I do remember them gating which characters could become a Jedi and some mysterious puzzle to figure it out.

Most of my friends quit as it was more crafting intensive than we were looking for.

But like you were saying, it was a sandbox type of game, and as you correctly pointed out, FF certainly isnt that type of game.
