CoP was difficult, alright for some players but a little too tough for the rest. I played FFXI for many years, and I still do, on and off, enjoying the game at my own pace since everything requiring large groups (aside from Voidwatch) is pretty much down the drain.
I was there to beat CoP before the nerf of major fights, no loss of exp upon death in the battlefields, and the almighty level-cap raise, and I didn't have good gear. I also wasn't the most intelligent, or the most-skilled player. It was quite daunting at first, but as you progress things didn't get much more difficult.
- Beat all promys in record time on dry runs, without anima.
- Beat Airship fight on dry run.
- Tenzen was a joke with half-decent DD who had their 2hrs.
- The wyrm in riverne is a massive joke with a manaburn.

The only two pain-in-the-butts I remember were the Minotaur in Phomuina and Promathia, with the former only tough getting a group for and Promathia only took two tries. On Promathia, our first was dry and we almost beat him, so the next run we used the same tactics and our potions and consumables. He quickly became a joke thereafter.

You praise CoP like a fool blinded by righteous zeal. The difficulty didn't make it FFXI's gem, but it was the story you got to experience and take part in after surviving such dire straits.
I think that story content, with no actual reward other than the lore, cutscenes, and your character's involvement shouldn't be content that only hardcores experience. I feel the same about CoP, even after all these years. Thankfully it's almost entirely soloable now, up to the Tenzen fight.

Just because you're apparently 'hardcore' and a badass little midget doesn't mean the others, in spite of skill or gear or other circumstances, shouldn't be able to enjoy story-based content. It's something that everyone should be able to participate in.

And your blind praising of CoP as the best thing FFXI had to offer, simply because of it's ridiculous learning curve, is laughable.
I thought the Professor fight was the worst because I had to farm subligars with JP's for five hours in exchange for a 5 minute fight lol. Anyway, your reaction to my praise to CoP is puzzling. You do realize CoP gave XI more than just storyline fights, yes? New zones, new cities, Tiamat, Vrtra, Jormy, etc, Limbus.

Sorry, but that's not "blind praise." It was an awesome expansion and nothing stopped anyone from "experiencing the content" but themselves.

Do you think I don't remember why people didn't have sea access or a Tamas ring? It's because they didn't try. I remember who on my friends list and who on in my social linkshell didn't have sea access. They were people who went up to fight Mammets once, wiped, and never went back.

If people choose to stand in town all day and engage in /s and /sh BS instead of actually do stuff, that isn't a negative reflection on content. What one man can do another can do. People chose to complete the CoP storyline and others chose not to.

So yes, speaking ill of CoP is blasphemy.

So sick of hearing this "argument." You make it sound like SE held a lottery and only a fraction of the player base could participate and the quests and storylines and fights and HNMs were unavailable to certain players.

I was playing in XI.
Others were playing XI.
We had equal access to everything.

The only real fault with CoP was how vague the quest locations were and how they sometimes requires people to go online to see where to go next.
