Weather in town would be a nice change. It wouldn't really be just like the weather outside, because the cities have walls, cover and such, that's if they try to make it more realistic. It might be a problem for taking clear screenshots though.

Another strange design decision, if the original worry was that people would complain about the fps lag then all they needed to do was add a toggle.
A lot of people on here want weather in towns with an on, off switch. They should also add "the switch" for the weather outside. It seems when SE adds something to the game they don't add everything with it. So if they add weather to towns it would either be raining all the dam time or hardly ever. Oh ya and they wouldn't give you an off, on switch for it untill they did a poll....lol

But they had snow in the capital cities during Christmas.. I don't quite see that being any less intensive than the occasional rain or fog. It also wouldn't be difficult to add an option in the menus to scale up\down weather effects, so they only appear in certain places\don't appear at all. FFXI had this.
I made a mention about this in a Lodestone blog on my old main that I don't have anymore.
FFXI only gave us fog/cloud effects at most in the starting regions of the game, and it would make sense the towns wouldn't show that much weather otherwise. Tavnazia had it's thunder weather (dark rarely happens and I can't recall a moment I was there when it occured) and Aht Urghan had wind on occasion.
But I know in FFXIV it's different. The Black Shroud has rain and thunder a lot, but this little blip in the middle of the region known as Gridania doesn't go beyond cloudy weather. Now concerning sandstorms getting into Ul'dah, I wouldn't know the know how of how nature works for this, but the town is surrounded by a tall wall. Maybe to some degree the sandstorm wouldn't be as serious inside of Ul'dah because of the layout of the place?
For now, I'm just putting the "towns have no weather" because of the random machinery that seem to float around the towns. You can see them easily outside of Ul'dah and Limsa. Maybe they're town weather controllers, maybe not.

This would be a nice feature.

EQ2 has it, it is possible, though I think for a long time it was raining inside buildings, that seems to be an issue with a lot of games with weather.. If they could pull that off alongside a toggle it sure would be nice.

snow is second place if not just as bad as rain in terms of performance hits and it went over pretty well.
