Game Freeze

Since launch of Dawntrail I have had a number of instances of game freeze. Sometimes just the game and I can close it and relaunch, but other times it freezes my PC as well and I have to force shutdown my whole system. I've seen other postings about this same issue elsewhere, but can't find any here.

I have exactly the same issue since Dawntrail. Either it freezes for 15 seconds or so, or it crashes completely.

Also getting this, no error usually but sometimes "windows has stopped responding" and nothing in event viewer. I have crashed in duties, solo duties, cutscenes, towns, loading into dungeons etc. Probably occurs once a hour on average.

Game will freeze sometimes for 10-15 seconds, never happened in previous expansions. Clicking on my 2nd monitor and back into the game usually fixes it.

Definitely not my PC, very powerful machine.

What Platform are you using? (Steam/Windows/Mac/PS4 etc.)
At what point does the issue occur?
How often does the issue occur?

Could you provide the exact error message received?
Are you running any additional programs alongside Final Fantasy XIV?
Does the issue occur with one character or multiple characters?
When the crash happens, is the PC over heating at all?
Were any update or changes made to the PC around the time of the crash?
Does this issue occur if the game is run in full screen mode? Does it happen in borderless or windowed mode?

All steps taken to resolve the issue:

Could you provide a system report? Simply go to the 'Config' option on the Final Fantasy XIV launcher and to the right of 'System Information' click on 'Display.

Good Afternoon Votraftur
Platform: PC
Issue Occurs: Different times, sometime just at the main title screen, sometimes in towns, sometimes in dungeons and then just in open world as well.
How Often: Multiple times a play session. I was doing the new dungeons as a trust and it happened 3 times in just the distance between the 2 bosses.
When playing the game will freeze for a few seconds, 10-15 at the most. I never lose connection, then it catches back up again. The sound continues to play, and dialogue is spoken even with the screen frozen.

No error message is ever received.
Only running the game when this happens.
Only focusing on my main character leveling to 100, so just one so far.
PC temp is fine. GPU, CPU temp are all in normal range as well.
No updates were made. The problem started before I updated my drivers for my GPU. Since the problem, I have updated GPU drivers, as well as BIOS, LAN. Still same problem.

Steps taken to resolve: I've unplugged my 2nd monitor. turned off g-sync, unplugged all extra controllers (ie: PS5 controller, flight stick & hotas). I've turned off geforce software. Turned off all overlays. Switched in game graphics settings to all levels (low, medium & high). Did multiple ping requests just to make sure it wasn't anything with my ISP. At around 97 tests, no losses or problems. Even during the freezes. Also went back to previous drivers and window updates. Problem still persists.

This doesn't occur with any specific frequency. The game is simply running fine, then it just stops. Frozen. No warning symptoms. The only solution is closing it out and relaunching it, unless it also froze my PC, then a forced system shutdown is required. There has been an error message only once and it was a list of FFXIV drivers. I didn't write them down. The rest of the times it's froze, there were no error messages.

Today, however, was an entirely different issue. Latency! In 24 man raid (specifically, Puppets Bunker - I don't know about others) the time it took for skills to visually go off after hitting the macro was ungodly. Most all party members were experiencing this. Character movement would freeze until the skills visuals went off. Talking to NPC's, the NPC would just freeze during the conversation. All I could do, barring closing the game, was wait until it started responding again as my character was locked in.

I want to emphasize, the game ran fine when Dawntrail early access first released. The only issue, and it was expected, was loading times. Performance has just gone downhill since the first couple of days.

Not sure if the entirely same issue but in a similar vein to the others at seemingly completely random intervals (Whether in or out of a duty, in or out of combat, temporarily idling or actively playing) the entire game will lock up, I've had it not happen an entire day and then earlier today it occurred twice within the same fight (final boss of the final Main Scenario Dungeon, though uncertain if that is relevant)
Unlike the others mentioning crashes this does NOT crash my game but does cause it to become completely unresponsive for what feels like ~15-30 seconds (checking Task Manager shows the program as unresponsive and the CPU/GPU usage values drop to 0 or near-0 values)
No error message occurs, a browser (Firefox) and Voice Communication (Discord) have been running during these, although they were also running prior to the DT update and this issue never happened prior

Thanks for looking into this.
- I am using PC with Windows 11
- The issue occurs randomly. There is no observable pattern. Could be during trials, dungeons, cutscenes, open world, anywhere.
- The issue occurs at random quantities as well. Could be once every 30 minutes or sometimes once per 3 hours. I do not know what triggers it.
- There is no error message. When the game freezes, the GPU goes down to 0%, but it is only the game that freezes. I can use the rest of the PC normally. Seemingly, FFXIV does not request any frames to render from the GPU which is why it goes to 0%. It crashed for me once without error message.
- I am usually having the Chrome browser open on a second monitor and Discord.
- There is no overheating.
- No update has been done around the time of the freezes. The only change was the Dawntrail release. Before Dawntrail, this issue has never occured.
- The issue does occur both in Fullscreen and Borderless Windowed. Some people suggested turning off fullscreen optimizations, but that didn't have an impact.

Other things I tried:
- Reinstall
- Various Graphical Settings all the way from very low to very high.
- Restart PC or only using a single monitor
- Disable all background apps to check for interference

@Lefthy: You and other with that problem have in common, you are using ELGATO software. Also you have plenty of background programms open, that not needed. try a miniumal boot with msconfig or close them (e.g.: C:\LooseExe\SoundKeeper64.exe , maybe interfere with Windows WSAPI Sound)

@Eoro: Try removing Armory Crate from ASUS, it runs extremely high amount of background tasks. Also close not needed apps in background, like "AI Suite III\EZ Update\EzUpdt.exe" or remove them. They are not needed, BIOS updates can be obtained manually through your the ASUS website.

@Anida: If FFXIV crashes and you have to completly shutdown your entire PC, then something heavily is wrong with your hardware, e.g. overheating or unstable RAM. FFXIV just shows these errors, maybe others games dont. (battlefield for example is known to be a good ram test)
