Someone above mentioned a checkbox to turn off upscaling, but I can't find it. Waiting on their response...
I gave 99% resolution another go, and I think I know what the issue is - the oversharpening effect messes with our shape perception, going "oh, oh, important edge here!" too much. I definitely noticed weird edges a lot, and it slows me down with shape-related mechanics like following the footprints in Ktisis Hyperborea. Which is, unfortunately, also unplayable for me, since rapid shape perception for complex shapes is a huge part of decoding animation tells.

And to make matters worse, it isn't even entirely stopping my system from blurring out; it just makes that less likely. :| Turning off anti-aliasing entirely makes the blurring less likely still, at the cost of even worse edges.

I play at 1080p. I changed upscaling to FSR and changed scaling from 100 to 99. It fixed it for me, otherwise, it would be unplayable.

I tried that for a bit but the image looked so overly sharpened it bothered me as well just in a different way.

You think? I suppose it's a matter of preference. I myself can never go back to FXAA xD

Don't get me wrong, FXAA sucks. But I'd rather deal with jaggies than my eyes being seared out of my skull by the blurring/unblurring issue or XTREME sharpening. lol

    Fair, fair.

What has given me some pause, is that you have to enable FSR (or DLSS if NVIDIA) no matter what, which is weird. Usually you only turn those on if you wanna gain frames while playing on higher resolutions, but not all computers even need that for high resolutions, and for 1080p they're almost completely useless.

To explain FSR and the rumor 100 turns it off

No it doesn't. FSR is on regardless if it's at 100, 99, 90 or 0. The game does not run natively and there's no way to turn off either upscaling options at all. People keep saying that the 100 turns it off. I tested it in multiple locations throughout the game by going first person. I did two tests for each area, a standing test and a movement test by pressing Q and E. The dead giveaway was always the same. The blurring from the upscaling affects the trees, vegetation and grass in most instances. These were in open areas like La Noscea, Thanalan, The Black Shroud, and many others. I even tested it in areas like Limsa to see if it was a high frame rate thing with the game's engine. I found that FSR is always on regardless of what settings you have. It's really baffling to me that they made the decision to force upscaling on.

Yes please, add an option to disable dlss/fsr. The blurring they cause on any movement is really bad. It's nonsensical to not have that option.

Just set it to FSR and disable to checkbox for upscaling. Since FF14 uses FSR1 that handles ONLY upscaling. So when you disable upscaling FSR doesn't do anything. And since there is no antialiasing build into FSR1, you can set that to any of the available options.

Then why is there blurring all over my demonstration video, where I show at the end that I have the game set to FSR at 100% resolution?
