Weird Blocky Shadows on NPCs and Other Players

Depending on the light source, there's a weird shadow being cast on other players and NPC's. From my experience I've yet to see this on myself. Let these images speak for the issue.








These are my settings for shadows:



It is as if these blocky shadows became only worse after the patch. It may just be me but I am wondering if others are experiencing this as well. Sometimes it literally looks like the face is melting.

I'm experiencing the same thing but mostly in houses. I haven't really had the opportunity to really explore much yet so can't confirm for other places but after logging in today going into my house I was greeted by this super jarring lighting/shadow bug.

I tried tinkering with settings but even on highest quality shadows it barely fixes it.It happens across the entire body and the face gets the same thing as the gifs you've posted. There's something seriously wrong with the light source/shadow apply after this patch..

I have this glitch on ps5 too. And let me tell you… there are barely any settings at all…

Untick "Use low-detail models on shadows (LOD)"
That should fix your issue.

Huh, that's Concerning. To have it be affecting the player as well.

Have noticed on some other threads that some places cause funky lighting even on the playable character but this is prob the worst one I've personally experienced lol. Lighting across the game just seems undercooked. Whether it be broken cast shadows or overblown light sources making you look like a candlestick.

The real question is, have you all updated your graphics drivers (amd/nvidia)? If your picture is from ps5 that's another issue which should definitely be fixed.

That should fix your issue.

Sadly this didn't fix the issue. I believe that option is more focussed around the shadow cast on the floor by your own body rather than what's cast directly onto you

The light sources in some areas are bugged and show slow quality shadows.

Prime example being the roof lights in the gridanian markets. It's not your settings!


Don't have example of the floor shadow but think of something like 8 bit shadows.

The real question is, have you all updated your graphics drivers (amd/nvidia)? If your picture is from ps5 that's another issue which should definitely be fixed.

I've went and gone ahead to do exactly that. It appears I had an update ready but alas, this did not fix it. Mind you, I've bought a completely new PC for Dawntrail as well
