graphical update on the PS5

it doesn't look right? am I the only one who is seeing the jagged edges, the pixelated background objects? I have noticed that it looks perfectly fine while the camera is moving, but the second it stops it turns into this. Not to mention I haven't noticed a substantial change whatsoever, especially in the earlier areas.
I have changed most of my settings on PS5. 120hz is set to off, currently running 4k with everything else maxed out (which, as you know, is not a lot) and I'm still experiencing this issue. The mountains in the back, the tower in the distance look just as bad as I remember. My character looks awful in this. I hope this gets fixed somehow, it's doing fine performace wise so I am seriously confused about all of this compromise on graphics, compared to the pc version. Thank you.

I didn't notice any change on my PS5. Graphics for XIV never have compared to what I have on my PC. I can't get XIV on my PS5 to look anything close to what I have on my PC, which isn't a high-end graphics card or anything (which is weird because Ghost of Tsushima and FFXV look amazing). /shrug.

Yeah i noticed my UI just isnt clear and sharp either. All my icons and text looks like it did pre-hd hud update.

the 4k on ps5 ver of the game is bugged. try turning it off or launching ps4version. im on ps5, play ps4 ver and have 0 issues. gona try ps5 later

Leaving the whole eye strain argument aside for a while, the update definitely feels weird in places, especially on the PS4. The sharper textures look strangely off, almost like everything was covered in small black dots and pixelated mess, and the console makes A LOT of noise even in zones with very few players.

All of this isn't helped by the fact that there are almost no graphical settings to adjust on the PS4. The whole update feels like it's not optimized properly at all.

As someone who wears glasses for astigmatism, I've noticed the severe eye strain as well. Yesterday, I had what felt like the worst headache in months. Besides having the game look objectively worse than before under certain conditions, it appears to be causing people with eyesight problems extreme discomfort. The PS4 version doesn't even appear to have the same issue, the characters and everything else look smooth, without any jagged edges or pixelated background objects. How is this even possible?

I'm having similar issues on the PS5 version. I did have to set 120hz off and restart the game, as has been suggested elsewhere, in order to allow the in-game screen resolution setting to be honored.

That fixed an overall graininess issue, and the fact that the UI scaling was oversized upon logging in after the update.

However, it did not help with other issues, notably one similar to what the OP posted. When not moving, background objects become extremely pixelated. When I move you can see them not only blur and smooth out but they also become much darker, like someone is painting over the background with black ink.

Older zones overall have this problem. If feels like shadows and contrast have been dialed up to a comical extreme, to the point where anything with a shadow is just entirely black with no discernible details and the shadows themselves are ugly, blocky and pixelated.

The PC version does not have this problem, and neither does the PS5 in NEW DT zones, which all look phenomenal.
