So many of the stern face options were changed to sultry, it's ridiculous!

I have no dog in this race, I truly could not care less about my character's face.
But knowing what I know about the FFXIV userbase at large, they probably made the correct marketing decision to make every character sultry.
I would like to add my two cents in here. I play two characters, and they both got the short end of the stick in this graphics update. All of my friend's characters look great, I understand that there were a lot of positives across the board, but some of these changes are completely needless and very strange.
This is male miqo'te face 4. I'm using my benchmark screenshots because they look identical to the game besides some small lighting tweaks.
The main problems here are how dark the eyes are due to the heavy shadow casting effect added (it doesn't matter what color they are, ALL male miqo'te now have much darker eyes because of this weird shadow effect, the actual textures are fine, it appears to be a new shader issue.
His mouth, which used to be neutral to a slight frown while in a resting state, has now been turned up at the corners into a slight smile while in a resting state. Again and again, people told me in the benchmark threads "he'll look fine in cutscenes, don't worry about it, you're overreacting." Well, I played through the whole Dawntrail MSQ and I can safely say, no he did not. He looked weird and off in every single cinematic, and the eye shading is so dark that I can't even see his cat-eye shaped pupils anymore. Why was this change made? It's very strange.
My other character is female au ra face 3. I absolutely ADORED this face's lips. She was adorable! And now, with the way bigger pupils and the lip changes, she looks sad and lifeless.
Yes this is a benchmark screenshot again, but she looks the same in game now and so I didn't feel the need to make a bunch more of these.
The lips is the part I'm most upset about. Why? Just why? Why would they flatten out her inner lip shape and make her lips smaller? This is absolutely unacceptable to me.
And to all the people who seem obsessed with telling us it's just the new lighting engine, no, it's not the lighting. I brought both the old and new face 3 model into Blender. Endwalker sculpt is the darker one on the left, Dawntrail sculpt is the one on the right. You can see just how different and "flat" looking the new sculpt is. It's not the Dawntrail lighting.
If they don't want us to use mods, then maybe they shouldn't make me turn to them to fix my character's eyes and lips and make her playable to me again. I can fix this with enough work, but console players deserve their WoL to look correct. I shouldn't have to mod her face to make her look like the character I know and love. I never felt a need to before now.

If you are posting detailed comparisons (or have other specific thoughts to share regarding the character alterations), please come and share them in the megathread:

Right now I'd settle for not having the single worst DLSS implementation in the history of the tech
Thanks for confirming just how botched the lips are. The EW model at least has some texture, unlike the abomination we have now. I heavily dislike the shine all of the models have, it looks as if they're wearing lipstick even when they shouldn't be. I've heard people on social media say that the old lips look "unmoisturized" and that the new lips are a "big step up" to which I want to add that not everyone wants to have a glitz and glamour influencer WoL. I wish the shine was turned into a toggle at the very least. :')Yes this is a benchmark screenshot again, but she looks the same in game now and so I didn't feel the need to make a bunch more of these.

Look, if I absolutely have to deal with my character face being fundamentally changed to have new nose, lips, eyes, jaw shape and size, making the whole vibe and expression different - can it at least be still pretty and, you know, not glitched out into a horrible mess by making one step from shadows into the light? Just try to step near the warm lamp in Gridania inn - the skin texture is immediately changed from smooth to granulated disaster with bugged lines (instead of what I presume supposed to be shadows).
It annoys me that it not only a big revamp, but also a shitty one at that.
PS. I play on ps5, where there is almost zero video settings available and the whole hardware is well known to the devs.
