MSQ gets you 90% of the way there on your main job.
Side quest + Fates + roulettes doesn't it for your alt jobs?
They have to give people a reason to do all content 999999 times.
Also, WT is like 1/2 a level

Side quests are finite. So having them carry at least one job to max wouldn't have hurt.

Especially since their rewards outside of minor world building have been so bad that I've been more often than not drained than happy after doing those.

Just mix in some side quest each time you level a job? each quest gives anywhere from 190k-200k exp at 80+

They always have given enough to level 1 job. The problem is the game doesn't really make it worth doing the side quests. If you are in a FC and using food, you're usually way ahead and end up wasting EXP in the MSQ anyway.

At 2% exp per quest, you might as well just do FATE's and get bicolor gemstones while you're at it

There is no reason to not make them worth more exp and worthwhile, perhaps more people would be interested in doing them

many of the blue quests have quite interesting stories even after they are completed for aether currents.
