I went and did some research on this, and at least have a vague understanding of what might be going on. Apparently characters have three kinds of textures... a diffuse layer, a normal layer, and another one that does fancy shader stuff that I don't really understand. But the thing happening with our (au ra) pink patches LOOKS like something I saw get brought up when the normal layer is mapping out scales that don't exist on the diffuse.

Take into account I'm not a dev and don't really know how this game does its magic, I'm kind of just parroting. The point is that it's a weird problem that I don't know how it got past QC lol

its a multi issue, seems in ffxiv's case they use the red channel to mark where to apply skin tone selection for the diffuse,
lets you mask out stuff you dont want the color/texture/material to be applied to, like scales, lips, teeth, and whatever else your game may have in use
but that red channel doesn't match the scales, so you either get scales dyed the skin color, or in this case: undyed skin

    It's a simple texture error.
A small area that isn't "colored" correctly in one of the texture channels so user chosen skin color influence does not translate to that particular area.
This is trivial in nature to fix and it boggles the mind how it got past QC in the first place.

Then again, SE is using shitty DXT-1 texture compression that is riddled with green-ish compression artifacts. Especially visible on Elezen faces.

W T F SE, seriously was that necessary just to cling to ~4GB VRAM use to grandfather in potato PCs?!
