    Is there currently a network issue?

    I am unable to play the game. I can get up to the character selection screen, and when I select my character, the client loads but it's just a black screen. I can hear the background music and sound effects, but the screen is just black. It only started happening about 30 mins ago. The loading icon on the bottom left does move and animate, but nothing happens.

    Okay it's happening again. There's a red circle next to my character's name like my connection is bad, but it's not my connection because my internet is working just fine. I think there's definitely something wrong with the server's network.

    This continues to happen. It was running fine last night but then now, it's barely playable. I walk maybe 10 steps, then the game stop and has to wait a minute to load the map, then I walk another 10 steps, and it does the same thing. It started happening since the patch. It's like the server has to "catch up" to whatever I'm doing every couple of seconds. It makes the game unplayable. Please at least acknowledge that something is wrong.

    I've decided just to do a fresh reinstall of the game. Maybe the update somehow corrupted the files and my HDD is having a hard time reading them. I feel like this thread is my personal journal lol.

    Hey there Ubu, just wanted to let you know that you aren't alone out there :P Came home today from being gone all weekend, did the update, and now I can barely play. Most of the time I start up, log in, select my character and black screen... If I do manage to get into the game as soon as I try to zone, black screen and computer locks up again. Game was running perfectly up until today. Going to try a few more times to log in and if it doesn't start working looks like I'll be waiting to see if there's more news about a fix. How's that reinstall going? Did it fix anything?

    Yup, after working hard on re-installing the entire game (and by working hard, I mean watching reruns of 30 Rock while it downloaded all the updates from the server), I played it for a few hours without any problems. Seems like it was just corrupted files from the patch. The whole re-installation took about 3 or 4 hours.

    Oh, I also have to mention that I also reformatted my HDD (my OS is on a separate HDD and I have a 2 TB HDD just for games, which is the one I reformatted). May have not been necessary, but I did it anyway.

    How's your router looking?

    A lot of people have been saying they are getting more frequent disconnects since the last patch. I haven't seen anything unusual personally. so it's not a widespread issue. (IE: it's not SE's end per se, but that doesn't mean it's not tied to something they changed)

    I dont' know what changed, but a couple things to check:

    Check your port forwarding on your router.
    check your gateway config and IP to see if it's changing randomly while you're playing
    try changing your DNS settings and also TCP/IP settings (change IPv4 to IPv6 or vice-versa)


    what kind of router do you have?
    What's your ISP?
    do you have a firewall?
    did anything change since the problem began? (did you move, get a new router, etc.)
