A tacky copy of a formula that doesn't and can't apply here, simply because Wuk Lamat has to be there, and someone apparently really thought people would cheer upon seeing her barge in yet again. Whoever is responsible for this doesn't understand the first thing about what made the story and story-gameplay integration up to Endwalker work the way it did.

I have read a comment somewhere that Wuk Lamat's barking in at the last trial should have given us a debuff.

If it's any consolation, the last trial is absolutely amazing in the first half and honestly some of the most fun out of normal mode content I've had in a while. I knew we were gonna be in for a good time when a single non-knockback mechanic killed 5 people, including a tank.

The final trial really was so awful, and it keeps going on, I never want to sit through this again. If there was an option to exclude it from future roulettes, I'd take it in a heartbeat.
Gaia coming in was topical, plot-relevant and charming.
Zenos coming to help us last minute was fun and awesome, foreshadowed before, and he says also very fun and quotable lines expressing his confidence in us at the edge of the world faced with the impersonation of despair, lends us some aid and then trusts us to finish her off because we're his respected sparring friend.
Emet helping out is foreshadowed in his attitude, internally coherent with his characterisation, motivation and emotions, also plot-relevant and a very cool moment, he helps us out of a situation that's his personal specialty as the Minister of Afterlife Matters, and then he also trusts us to continue and handle this as ourselves.
They're all welcome. These are people's favourite moments for a reason.

I mean, in my estimation, the decline of WoW started with Warlords of Draenor, which was the point they stopped caring at all about their own story (not a peep from Wrathion when he started this whole thing? Not even in Legion, where the very thing he wouldn't shut up about happens, he's... on vacation??). BfA was just where the general populace started to really face the issues. It can take a long, long time to come to terms with a game declining. I won't make that mistake again.
