Wow, Wuk Lamat is really single-handedly ruining the DT story...

Coupled that with the fact that her growth ONLY HAPPENED IN ONE EXPANSION while WoL's like... what? 4 expansions? 5 if we include ARR? And WoL and the Scions certainly encountered alot of significant, devastating, and traumatic push backs to make their character growth feel natural unlike the handwavey flaws and push backs that WL encountered. THEY LITERALLY HANDWAVED THE EUGENICS OF THE MAMOOL IN HER ARC.That will never be not funny and thats only one of the many problems they handwavely solved LOL.

Her arc was rather simple though. She needed to be more confident. That was resolved pretty early on. The rest of the Dawnservant arc is about everyone else realizing she's the most awesome person in the entire world who can end racism in a single afternoon, beat anyone in combat and solve all problems with friendship and understanding...

Then every ounce of that is tossed out in the second half and we're off to kill her brother. He killed 50 people. Peace is NOT an option. He MUST die and maybe Sphene too depending on her level of involvement. Even though we spent 60 hours being lectured on peace, Wuk Lamat isn't actually peaceful. She just doesn't harm people she's not mad at. But if you do make her angry, she's perfectly willing to put an axe through your skull.

Making peace is something we do with those we're fighting with. It's not really making peace when you're unbothered with the other person's actions. What she was doing in the beginning was more charming people than making peace. But when she actually lost something that matters to her, making peace wasn't even a consideration. Just like respecting culture extends as far as respecting an alternate taco recipe, but not something that seems sacrilegious like using souls to heal oneself. If someone's culture elicits a disgust response, then it's okay to insist they change the way they've done things for centuries after being around them for like an hour.

The issue wasn't Wuk's short simple arc or the amount of time they spent on it. The issue is that Wuk only functions as a leader because the entire universe warps around her to make that the case. And it's very noticeable to anyone with an adult brain which makes DT feel like it's a story made for itty bitty babies.

When I started the first set of quests with the Not-Hanu Hanu, I groaned because that set the stage for what I could expect. And the story did not disappoint. I hope NEVER EVER to see Wuk Lamat again.

Man...what the actual hell, my experience with her so far is

'oh she's not too bad, kinda cringe tho...' > 'oh god...is being hungry her only trait?' > 'why should I help her based on 'trust me bro'? is my WoL regressing? did they learn nothing from being dragged into politics' > 'I feel like I'm babysitting a (spoiled) child, it feels criminal to assist someone so incompetent to the throne'

Oh man the part where the universe warps around her to make her an effective leader is so fucking true man. The one instance that really stuck to me cus its the 1st red flag i noticed is when she decided to start a party while the Hanu Hanu is literally on the verge of a famine cus "she wants to cheer them up" and then the fact that EVERYONE agreed is baffling. THEN we found out that by fixing the party pinata that apparently the pinata is the aNSWER TO THEIR FAMINE PROBLEM. Like what? Apparently she solved the famine problem ACCIDENTALY just because she decided to have it fixed for the festival. Absolute brain dead. I was so baffled the entire time.

Not to mention the fact that they dont know their party pinata is literally an aether conduit is kinda another WTF moment. I understand if the hanu hanu is a big city with hundred of thousands of people where traditions can get lost easily but no! Its a tight knit community where everyone knows everyone and usually tight knit communities like that keep to their traditions for CENTURIES specially since its not been that long since the knowledge about the pinata/floaty being an aether conduit was common. The hrothgar boatmaker is not THAT old so I'd say it probably like 20 or maybe 40 yrs.

It absolutely killed me that not only her random idea to throw a party cause the frogs looked sad was somehow the solution to famine, multiple people, including the carpenter KNEW that was the solution to famine and were gonna let them skip doing the festival this year anyway. You cannot convince me Wuk Evu was not waiting for those birds to drop dead so he could eat them. Only explanation.

Which isn't to say there's anything wrong with the power of love or friendship as a plot device. The Endsinger trial used it to great effect. It made sense there.

I'm also not surprised at the primal commentary I've seen about Wuk Lamat because I've seen similar about the Warrior of Light and our almost supernatural ability to get people to get along.

The problem with both is when they're not used to good effect and instead magically solve everything just by using them. Which is just a big problem with Wuk Lamat. There's a lot about her that is fine in moderation, but it's the excess that makes it all border on the ridiculous.

I'd say the differences between the Warrior of Light and Wuk Lamat, is we're not complete dumbasses, we've been helping different cities, races, cultures, you name it, since we set foot in Eorzea, and we've quite literally built up a reputation that is greater than anyone else on the Star by the time we reach DT. And unlike Wuk Lamat, we have failed quite a few times. We have lost every single expansion, people we cared about. We've also been a pillar of strength to everyone, including the Scions. The one being on this Star that could always be relied upon to fight for others.

In short, we've earned the respect of others, that allows democracy a chance to happen. And we have had the strength to back it up in many instances.

Imma be real with you; if that ever happened to me irl (the poisoning thing in Heavensward) I would never take a drink again from anyone.
