People should understand that by liking one specific character, it doesn't mean that one is aspired to be like them. You can like the worst or the most despicable character because of the motive, writing, and execution of the character. Just because one likes Valens doesn't mean that the individual is about to abuse children and turn them into war machines, it maybe because the writing of the character is so good and well written that it makes the players both love and despite such character (Ex. Asahi)

I miss Asahi. He was written to be hated, and hammed it up so well and was so entertaining he looped back around to being almost kind of likeable, if only for the entertainment factor and the disruption he brought. The exact opposite of Wuk Lamat, who was written to be universally beloved, and well here we are.
Let them pull the same trick they did for salvaging Stormblood back then, but fish Asahi out of the Aetherial Sea and give him a redemption arc. I may be joking, but I'm almost certain I'd unironically enjoy that more than pretty much anything that's actually in the works.

I would say, just like the game does about Wuk Lamat, but funny thing is, in Stormblood Zenos asked if we wanted to be friends, and we could choose to accept or not. We got more agency there.

Why would you use the word "gaslit" here though? The narrative gave player full agency on whether we want to agree with Zenos or return his feeling. Very unlike Wuk Lamat where we don't have a say of becoming her dearest friend, because even when we're given the option to say no, other NPC will insert for us.

I'm trying to give the MSQ a chance; I was excited about a less epic story. Like an anime between arcs, just some light hearted fun but, this is just awful. Soooo disappointed

On another note, if people still believe we were mentors to Wuk Lamat, they obviously never played the Red Mage quests or did but skipped the cutscenes. X'hrun tia is actually an embodiment of a mentor, not us.
