In my honest opinion just because Blizzard screwed up massively does not make SE exempt for screwing up less.
After 4 wonderful years of play, with the latest update the pc occasionally gets sent into freeze by the game leaving me with a black screen and I have to manually reboot the computer.
My 3080 does not exceed 80% usage and temperatures are always well below critical values. Needless to add that all other games do not create any problems and even here, before the update, everything was perfect.
It would be nice to be able to give a judgment on the expansion, after so much anticipation and hype...
However, from what little I have seen, it looks so much like a more of the same with slightly improved graphics

Don’t put an option to switch simple as… people have grown accustomed to dated 10 year old visuals that were even dated when it came out… and having even a modicum of advancement is better then none so I would gladly take some partially off characters (which can still be tweaked in patches) then being back where we were.i'm just here to laugh at "the difference is jarring" and "art style direction" when this is nothing compared to WoW's graphic update. SE actually tried to keep them looking the same and you get a free fantasia + reworked how the fantasia works.
genuinely can't tell if i'm supposed to take y'all seriously.
eye strain/headaches is a completely different matter and might be related to motion blur or smn. see what other ppl say abt settings, idk. being displeased with how things look =/= genuine discomfort and shouldn't be in the same thread imo. there IS a thread for eye strain, but i think our forums are p!ss at being noticed, so i'd watch it for solutions and send actual in-game feedback about eye/head discomfort instead of mMMMMM sorry, i can't, this just comes off as whining to troll our forums as per usual.

Female Miqo'te Face 3 with Mouth 4 makes me sad. I had the cutest miqo'te in the universe, but after the update, if you look at me face to face, straight on, my upper lip texture looks like i have an underbite and that my chin pokes out more than it should. But when you look at my side profile, things don't look as bad. Image 1 and 2 are before update. Third and fourth images are after the update with my ugly lips and weird underbite (side profile is cute but straight on face to face is offputting.

My miqo went from being the cutest thing ever imo, to being weird looking.
This is unacceptable. If they don't give us options to revert character models for "You" and "others" or "all players", I may have to resort to becoming a modder so that i can commission a mod maker to make a mod that makes me look like my old vanilla self. This is that important to me. You can't just mutilate my Feathetaria like this. I'm sad.
Edit: After doing research online, I learned the name of the lines under our nose. It is called a Philtrum. From just looking at the four images that I included here, I can already see that the spacing between the left and right crease of my Philtrum has been increased. I used to have a smaller philtrum but now it's a wider one and this is probably a moderately sized part of the problem.\
Final Edit: I made an extremely bad drawing that over-exaggerates the differences that are annoying me so badly between DT and Pre DT Lips of Female Miqo'te Face 3 when combined with Female Miqo'te Mouth 4. Keep in mind that i totally exaggerated these shapes. I'm just trying to make obvious the differences i see that are bugging me so much and making me sad:

They should definitely take the feedback given and fix issues that people point out or at least take into consideration but can't agree with having an option to turn it off...It's silly.
Alright I'll move my DLSS/eye-strain complaints to another thread, sorry, but I will say, having a lighting toggle is not any additional file size on a normal game engine.
At this point, I m somewhat convined that fixing the 2.0 "has to launch FFXIV within PS3 life cycle" spaghetti code will solve AT LEAST 50% of FFXIV current issues. Not to mention the myriad of issues rendering two entirely different models might have. This is notorious for the amount spaghetti code it has. I can't imagine it could handle both the old and new graphical update without a lot of excess work which isn't something the dev team will want to put time into.
Due to the spaghetti code, the netcode can't function properly like most MMO out there.
Due to bad netcode, you can't have a more fluid/and reactive job gameplay, thus the sluggish PVP experience.
Due to bad netcode, the encounter design became limited and redundant due to lack of reactive gameplay.
Due to bad netcode, a lot mini-game feel like slug to play.
Due to the spaghetti code, you can't have glamour log or more glamour plate.
Due to the spaghetti code, adding a new feature to character creation is literally impossible, as they rather replace the existing character creation options than add the update as new option for it, because "muh engine can't handle it".
I really hated what they did to my character's old (Female Roegadyn) face. It's obvious they completely changed the face geometry to make it more rounded, smooth, and "human" for the sake of realism, but she wasn't human and it's a fantasy game, so realism is poor goal to strive for. Even so I probably could have gotten used to the changes, but the graphics update also make the dark hair too light and added a sweaty sheen to the skin, which might not be inappropriate for the climate of Tural but I don't want it all the time.
I fantasia'd to a Hrothgar which I am liking so far. At least the fuzzy skin texture doesn't have the sweat shine.
They look fine.
Hi there, I see you posting in these threads a bit. Can I ask you to test something out, as a favor? Would you mind popping into your character creator and opening up your save of the cute Au Ra you have in your profile? I'd like you to go through each of the options/sliders (except for tattoos/face paint, that seems a bit much, and hair style can stay too) and move all of them (eyes, mouth, jaw, all the colors, etc) one option to the right/down. If you are already as far right/down as you can go for that option, move it back to the first option.
While I am sure that the resulting character would probably 'look fine', I think it would not look much like YOUR character. I believe you would feel unhappy if you were told you would be keeping your character, and then you logged in and this new character was waiting for you instead of your WoL. They look fine. They do not look like your WoL. You are able to change them, but you cannot change them back to the character design you had before, the one you've had for years, the one you've leveled through the MSQ and all the way to 100. Maybe if only the mouth changed, you might be willing to tolerate it. Maybe even that would spoil something you loved about your character. Maybe cutscenes would feel off. Maybe you wouldn't like to gpose anymore. Maybe you'd want to find a way to change that one small thing back to how it was, back to what you chose for your character in the first place, back to the design you selected and have loved for years.
This is what people are unhappy about. The graphics might (mostly) 'look fine', but they are not the characters people have played and loved for years. That is why so many of us are unhappy. I am glad you are happy with how your character turned out (don't look too close at her scales/horns tho for real), and that doesn't mean other people are happy with how different their characters are. This is meant to be a feedback forum. No one is trying to take your character from you. We're unhappy that it feels our characters were taken from us. If it is possible to get our characters back, without taking yours away, how is that a problem for you? Why shouldn't everyone get a chance to be happy with the update?
