Thread: 2.0 Beta Character Usage

There is so much information on 2.0 right now I don't know where to begin, so Im going to ask and hope someone can answer or make an educated speculation:

Will our current characters be usable in beta? (I hear people say most likely no, but then this brings the question of... Do we have to pay the monthly fee then? Because we are playing beta characters that will most likely get wiped and replaced with our current characters.)

I love the game and have played and subscribed since day one, but I may temporarily stop my subscription during beta if it means I am paying to "test" a game, rather wait for the excitement of discovering on my permanent character.

Anyone have news???

Players that have been given access to the beta will start with fresh characters. Our 1.0 characters won't carry over into the beta, but will be there when 2.0 lunches officially. I am basing this off of what Yoshi-P said in some interviews at E3.

I read that differently... He says in the interviews that it will take up to 'one month' to transfer all the character data. I read this as our current characters will be transferred into the 2.0 client and playable in Beta, but it will take up to one month to get everyone's characters over?

Edit: Yeah, went over it again, and i still read it that way, unless you can deliver me a quote that says specifically otherwise. Our current characters will be current in 2.0 and will not wipe at official launch. But for some of us, our data will be ready after a few days, and for others it won't be ready till November, and then we still have to be chosen to play the beta. ... Then, i'm guessing characters will be transferred over as they are chosen.

Beta is still over 6 months away (Japan Expo presentation announced "Winter 2012"), there is just no point in trying to assume things at this point. What will exactly happen with beta phases and our data is most likely not even final for SE. So yeah trying to understand what will happen in over 6 months time when even SE have probably no idea, good luck with that...

Just be patient and wait for announcements. What would it change anyway to know now what will happen exactly :s

And "this" is outdated. Latest presentation is Japan Expo and it says Winter 2012. And I don't see the information at Japan Expo being incorrect knowing that Yoshida was on stage and announced it himself.

how can it be over 6 months away when there are only 5 months left in the year?

Because Winter means anywhere between Dec 21st to March 19th? It's just a way to say Q1 2013 without saying "2013".

And 5 or 6 months doesn't matter anyway... that's still way too far to have all details now.
