    Three Oaths, One Paladin: A Dynamic Tanking Experience

    - Paladin overview:
    I have been analyzing new jobs for ffxiv and I thought that I could write about paladin’s rework that might make it more interesting than the current one.
    The idea is paladin has 3 stances that is changing while combat by doing certain combos’ stance for tanking stance for damaging stance for magic and healing.

    Job Gauge:



    Passive:
    • Shield Oath (Primary): increase defense 20% and block by 15% of the damage
    • Sword Oath (Secondary): Increase damage done by 10% and apply HP regen while in sword oath.
    • Holy Oath (Secondary) Increase defense by 10% and healing power by 20%.
    While playing the job the active passive will be shield oath that’s why its is the primary passive.
    123 combo will open 2 combos two possible combo:
    • Shield oath combo: 3 heavy physical attacks damage using shield it will increase defense 5% and parry 5% while performing it.
    • Holy oath combo: 3 heavy magic attack damage it once started it will change passive to Holy Oath, each attack will heal character.
    When both done then Requiescat now can be casted to swap passive to Sword Oath passive that will activate Confiteor combo.

    Tank buster mitigation:

    Hallowed Shield (physical mitigation):

    If done correctly: block 100% from damage and next Requiescat will be improved with sword oath increase damage to 20% instead of 10%.
    Else: it give debuff damage taken increase by 10% and full damage received

    Devine Veil (Magical mitigation):
    If done correctly it will give all parties increase defense by 15% until they take next hit.
    Else: it gives debuff damage taken increase by 10% and full damage received

    Abilities removed:
    Bulwark, cover, clemency, Sentinel.

    I know it is a bit simple but I am cooking more in-depth ideas, I want to know your opinion so I can craft it better

    Hallowed Shield seems odd. 100% reduction in damage or if you whiff it you get a +10% vuln debuff. Sounds more like a parry as I wouldn't expect readying a shield to incur a penalty. Especially if you're removing Bulwark + Sentinel, you're kind of steering this job towards dealing damage and using Hallowed Shield at the right time to mitigate damage. Kind of all feels like DRK's aesthetic, with Hallowed Shield being a TBN variant.

    If I'm reading this correctly, the player *has* to do a Shield Oath + Holy Oath combo to enter Sword Oath, or else players would do everything in their power to stay in Sword Oath for as long as possible due to the +10% damage, right?
    I don't think Shield or Holy Oath have enough functional identity - they read as Heavy Defence stance and Light Defense stance, but I'm sure the VFX and animations would be nice and clearly distinct.

    How is Divine Veil "done correctly"?

    Taking away Cover takes away flavour from the job, it's unique to PLD.
