I don't know what kind of database transfer they'll do with the new server, but I feel all the Dated recipes shouldn't be carried over. The easiest way would be to handle dated items like the Guild Marks; they disappear in ARR. That gives people time to try to sell them on the MW or vendor them before the servers go down. Keeping the Dated items in ARR will just serve to confuse new players.

Why does everyone thing new players will be so confused? One, people aren't THAT stupid... Its something they can learn in like 2 seconds. Besides that, they could just as easily add an annotation to the description of all dated gear, with a brief explanation of what 'dated' means. And the dated gear will slowly phase out by people's natural tendency to convert and NPC them.

That way they don't need to piss any of the current players off.

If you DO get rid of dated gear, I think anyone still in possession of anything 'dated' during the transfer should have their dated stuff converted into current stuff. I don't want to have to go rebuy my coatees (THE BLACK ONE, OF WHICH IS NOW UNAVAILABLE NON-DATED, AARGH!!) and my best gathering gear, etc. I should either get to keep them or have them automatically replaced with current stuff.

So, players like myself who've played since closed beta and have a 'Legacy' account, but haven't felt inclined to grind away at recent content to get 'current' gear, find our characters naked with no gear come ARR?

Good way to treat us. :|

You only have dated gear o.o? I think it might be good to consider getting some of the new equipment that has been released since then. I always thought some of the fun was getting new equipment occassionally.

Hopefully you have at least a few pieces of non-dated gear so you can be decent when ARRRRrr comes out.

    Correct.

New gear = huge Seal grind or umpteen instance/group runs. Most of the friends I had early on have gone, the shell I'm in is moribund and I see no point trying to find a new one before 2.0.

If SE delete all my gear for no useful purpose whatsoever then I'll not play 2.0, simple as that. There is NO point in deleting items that already exist, at all.

Some MMOs delete obsolete items all the time once they "clean up" or remove a means of obtaining it unless it's a rare item, i.e if it's a Ring of Slaying that gives you 70 attack and 120 STR, of course that wouldn't get deleted, but a bronze mail that's been long replaced and you can no longer buy from NPCs or anything of sort? That gets deleted once they clean up redundant items in an update.

You're also incorrect about one thing:

New Gear = Crafted with new recipes and instead of being able to wear high end gear at level 1, you have to actually level to wear it -- most dated gear is "optimal level (x)" which you can wear at any time you want even if you get no benefit whatsoever, they clearly wanted to get out of that system for the most part.

There are lots of places to get new gear without an LS.

There are always shouts in Ul'dah for pickup groups.
You can buy it form the Market Ward.
    You can craft it yourself.
You can get it from quest rewards.
You can get it from leve rewards.

Most activities have at least some chance of getting you new gear. If you have nothing that isn't dated, I do wonder what you've been doing for the last year.

i'm holding on to my dated green iron plate set if only for display and nostalgic reasons. let us keep our D-Gear but remove all the dated recipes. i also agree that we should add some of the dated gear back in as non dated gear.
