I have a few dated items that have some extreme sentimental value attached ... I'd prefer to not lose them.

The red magnifiers I made with the gold dust from killing LV99 goblins with old friends is one of my favorite piece of equipment, period.

    I say:
    - trash the dated gear;
    - replace them with better "optimal level" gear (not required level).

LOL cash shop! SE's way to tell their player how they appreciate them... pull the carrot and empty your pockets $$$
And to those who support it: you are kicking yourselves. -- We just need to sit back and laugh at people with cash shop items.

The ONLY way I think they should delete the dated items is if they KEEP THEM IN THE GAME, update them to the current, and allow us to alter color schemes of ALL gear to whatever color we want.

Some of the dated gear can be dyed colors that "new" junk can't be. We should be allowed to dye gear whatever color we want, without the need of a craft to do so. If they did that I believe some of the complaining will be gone. Since a lot of people just want to be able to wear something different in town.

Some gear a lot of us just wouldn't wear and would like to just wear something different from time to time because we get sick of staring at everyone wearing AF or the same items, people want to look different once in a while.

With all offense intended: I wouldn't be caught dead in Coliseum gear, whoever desidned that needs to be fired or not allowed to design the gear looks anymore. There is a difference between the terms of gear looking "cute", "sexy" and "may as well wear nothing". The coliseum items are closer to the third then anything I personally think its one of the worst looking items that SE has ever made. Coatees for example have some degree of class to them, Coliseum does not. When armor leaves less to the imagination then underwear there is a problem.

In all seriousness though, some of the dated items people wear because the color/design is not available in the game at all anymore (example I don't think newer coatees come in pink or black which look the best on some characters).

We should be able to KEEP any dated items we have. I don't care if you remove the ability to make them that's fine, but those of us who have items we like the looks of on our characters, even if only for cosmetic purposes should not be punished for Yoshi-P's lack of planning.

I will not spirit bond them since spirit bonding is a waste of time and money since most materia is worthless, I will just keep them.

To all you crafters, I am NOT re-buying something I lost because square enix's development team doesn't know what they are doing and are unable to think far enough ahead into the future, they are the ones at fault.

Also most of us had those "dated" items before they were "dated" and we decided to keep them for the looks alone. So any debate you may put up against having them in the first place such as "you shouldn't have bought them" is completely invalid since a large number of us had them before "dated" even existed.

I would really like to see dated items get destroyed along with the world.

I could see it being very confusing to new players as well.
I guess you could go the route of keeping the dated items but taking out all the synths to make them. But that would make dated items crazy rare and that would not be good.

I am definitely interested in how they will re-allocate these items... because like several players on this thread, I have a couple dated items that are of extremely high sentimental value to me. Actually, one of the very first crafted items I ever crafted for myself on FFXIV is my Dated Sheepskin Moccasins, which I still have to this very moment.

Heck, here's proof that I still rock those stomping boots cuz of how well they go with my "Desert Sky-Pirate" attire... (don't ask, it's a personal Atreides thing)...

So yeah, if you try to pry them from me, I WILL bite your kneecaps...(specialized skill I learnt from Tarutarus on FFXI)

Yeah, I basically want them for the inevitable dressing room in FFXIV.

I'm against doing away with the dated gear. Leave it in-game, remove the materials and recipes needed to make them. Some items as it stands don't even have current counterparts. A prime example is the sandals. We have sandals of varying colors which resemble the default footwear. There aren't any updated recipes for these items. There's several more examples too. Items like shoes (Sheepskin, Leather, Toadskin.) don't go past a certain level. What happened? We have no recipe replacements for these. Gowns barring the Ul'dahn Gown cannot be used until the 40's. Same goes for culottes. As for new players a simple fix is prevent these items from being sold in the wards/auction house/whatever they use. Items can be traded between players, put in up personal bazaars but cannot be listed for sale in other means. Removing the equipment can also hinder returning players the greatest.

What if someone quit before the new recipes came out? All their equipment is now dated and if they delete the dated equipment it will leave them with no gear. How is that fair? Some might have even been using gear not equippable by their class/level so if it's just replaced then it'll probably be unequipped and remain useless. Imagine this:

You stop playing the game before the newer recipes come out so your gear is dated. ARR arrives and you think "Hey, looks like the game has changed! I'll give it another try!" and reactivate your account. You go through, select your character and first thing you see is you're completely naked. All your equipment is gone. You have little gil and can't afford to go buy all new equipment right now and all your current equipment is either gone or been replaced with stuff you possibly cannot use or is generic. In some simple case if they delete the gear you're looking at returning characters likely being garbed in their racial clothing instead.

Now unless SE is going to carefully go through each and every player to give them updated equivalent gear to replace what they're losing it's a real downfall. Current game designs is what hinders them from adding in complete replacements for every piece of gear (I can't remember where but I know Yoshi-P commented on this regarding limitations.) but I don't see ARR having this problem being built upon a whole new engine. Overall, removing this equipment I feel would do more harm than any good really. If you look at some games (Everquest Online Adventures is an example.) there was some equipment that could be obtained for a certain period of time that later became obsolete or no longer dropped/was obtainable for whatever reason. These pieces of gear became depending on their stats rare and sought after.

Apart from looks and functionality just about every aspect of dated gear is surpassed by current, newer pieces of equipment. So FFXIV shouldn't have to suffer from something like this. I'm getting this post longer than I intended so I'm going to stop here.

    tl;dr version:

    1.) Keep the dated gear.
2.) Removing it affects returning players the most.
3.) Keeping it around has no effect on anyone.
