Well if they make it all disappear then they need to compensate people for all the Dated pieces of gear they have. I have several dated items some I would like to hang onto. Reintegration would be the optimal choice especially since we won't be using the same game client. Just replace dated gear at character swap time with the normal gear.

Why? I mean... Hell, why? They are just dated items. Give players a reasonable amount of time for selling/spiritbond them and get rid of them altogether. That's a compensation.
People tend to take these kind of things as if there's no tomorrow... :/

Well by that logic, all of your current gear will be old when 2.0 launches, so you should be completely naked and have to start over.

All they need to do is simply not allow for the selling of dated items via AH (still trade/bazaar if you feel like it), since everyone feels that it would clutter things. It's one thing to delete the items used to make them, but getting rid of the actual gear itself is a bit ridiculous.

As for new players, I'd certainly hope they're not so dumb that someones trophy dated gear ruins the game for them.

You shouldn't equal old to dated when talking about FINAL FANTASY XIV and FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn. Dated items come from dated recipes which have been revised and replaced by updated ones with better statistics matching (or supposed to match...) current gameplay. They are supossed to get banished at some point as Yoshi-P / devs have stated (and I'm not going to quote for truth - everyone should do their own homework).
On a side note, I'm not concerned about dated items; I just think that compensating players because of this is pretty weird at best.

Some of the items can't be replaced. For instance, the old dated precious metal earrings have +Evasion on them, which is impossible to get for that slot now that the old recipes are gone (the new precious metal earrings add Perception instead). Other items simply look better than other gear. For instance, almost all of the hooded robe recipes were removed from the game, making that a much more unusual look.

I'm with Griss, doesn't matter to me what happens as long as the stupid dated gear can't be listed in the markets.

Reintegrating them is a good idea too though.

I'm fairly biased, as I made some dated gear back in 2010... :P I can't imagine SE would keep any dated materials (since they would have no use)

I don't know what kind of database transfer they'll do with the new server, but I feel all the Dated recipes shouldn't be carried over. The easiest way would be to handle dated items like the Guild Marks; they disappear in ARR. That gives people time to try to sell them on the MW or vendor them before the servers go down. Keeping the Dated items in ARR will just serve to confuse new players.

Why does everyone thing new players will be so confused? One, people aren't THAT stupid... Its something they can learn in like 2 seconds. Besides that, they could just as easily add an annotation to the description of all dated gear, with a brief explanation of what 'dated' means. And the dated gear will slowly phase out by people's natural tendency to convert and NPC them.

That way they don't need to piss any of the current players off.

If you DO get rid of dated gear, I think anyone still in possession of anything 'dated' during the transfer should have their dated stuff converted into current stuff. I don't want to have to go rebuy my coatees (THE BLACK ONE, OF WHICH IS NOW UNAVAILABLE NON-DATED, AARGH!!) and my best gathering gear, etc. I should either get to keep them or have them automatically replaced with current stuff.

So, players like myself who've played since closed beta and have a 'Legacy' account, but haven't felt inclined to grind away at recent content to get 'current' gear, find our characters naked with no gear come ARR?

Good way to treat us. :|
