ffxiv Unable to update patch files [11006] [20819] [20831] [19900] [23]

I've been trying to get the game updated and ready for the Dawntrail Early Access.

But for some reason the update is just not working. I keep getting the error message on the title. Unable to update patch files [11006] [20819] [20831] [19900] [23]

I've tried everything. I deleted the game and reinstalled it. I rebooted my PC. Tried to launch the game in admin mode, tried to launch steam (I play the steam version) in admin mode. I shut down my window's firewall, disabled my antivirus, deleted folder 4e9a232b from the installation folder. And more. Nothing works.

I need help. I pre-ordered Dawntrail PRECISELY to play the Early Access. If I have to miss it because of this stuff I'm going to be pretty crushed.

I'm also having this issue with the same error numbers & everything. I deleted all the files in my patch folder, flushed my DNS, turned off my firewall after allowing everything FFXIV uses to patch, and cleared cookies in IE/Edge just in case the launcher is still using it. No go.

I'm currently reinstalling, so it'll be a few hours before I know if it gets stuck patching "ex3" again and crashes out. I'm not feeling super optimistic, haha. Could it just be an ISP issue, or the servers being overloaded? It's weird that, for me, it's erroring in the same spot every time...

I would check the download folder that the game uses to update itself:

On Windows 11 open the File Explorer (yellow folder icon) and then in the list to the left at the top, select "Documents" then "My Games" and then "Final Fantasy XIV - A Realm Reborn", inside this folder is "downloads", this is where the launcher downloads, unpacks and applies the updated files from.

Make sure this folder is not managed by "OneDrive", as usually by default the folder "Documents" is (check that as well), if OneDrive is managing this, then the update files attempt to get stored on cloud storage or another location, thus the launcher fails to update.

Just to be safe, I would disable OneDrive completely or Uninstall it if you don't use it.

If you aren't using OneDrive or it has been disabled/removed and it still won't update or fails to, then you can test your connection if you have a smartphone with some data on it, setup a "hotspot" connection (google that if you're not sure, it's different for each phone), then connect to your phone's hotspot with your PC and attempt to launch the game and see if it will update. If it works, you need to check your PC's normal connection, turn off any VPN if you use one. Also launch the Microsoft Edge web browser and update it if it needs updating, turn off any extensions running as the launcher uses this browser.

Hopefully that helps, might be able to try a few more things if it doesn't.

Doing so will save you hours of redownloading. It is also handy if you get errors.

That way, you can Uninstall then just reinstall the game, but don't open the launcher after installation, simply paste the game folder straight over the newly made one which will be virtually empty, and once it finishes pasting, you can launch the game as usual, login, then update again if issues happened.

I'll see if it lets me do this after it's done downloading the current expansions haha. Thanks! So far it's doing ok and I got past the part I was stuck at before.

I realized I haven't done a full CLEAN install of FFXIV since 2019 so it's long overdue.

The dev team already posted early this morning about its availability. You could have checked there first, as they always post that information on the lodestone, instead of replying and speculating on something that's already happened

My download finished and it looks like I'm good to go. I'm sorry reinstalling didn't fix OP's issue though I don't run mine through steam so I can't help.

Fingers crossed that the expansion launch goes smoothly for everyone. My bar is set at "better than Stormblood early access"... Raubahn/Pipin Savage, you will always be (in)famous.
