I am confused need questions answered

Q1. Almost finished the main story I have like 25 more quests to do. Currently lvl 50 as Ninja but maintenance happened, but What do I do after the main story?
Q2. How does gear work in this game? Do people farm for stats or is it all the same?
Q3. Where do people get gear that they like the looks of, is it crafted or from raids?
Q4. What are some important things that Gil can buy, I don't understand the full uses of it yet, I just know it can buy some mounts.

Given the level you're stating, you continue the main story from ARR into Heavensward.

Basically yeah, you just keep getting the next highest item level for your job/category until it's the highest you can get until the next patch.

Crafting, dungeons, raids, seasonal quests/cash shop. Basically it varies depending on the person.

The main thing for gil is housing, if you can luck into it, or buying crafted gear and consumables each patch intended for raiding if you can't just make it yourself. There isn't actually a lot of important things locked behind gil, as there's no realistic limit on how much you can make. Anything truly important is locked behind tomestones and the like gained from doing dungeons and raids.

Q1. You are mistaken that you are "almost done" with the main story. It is one continuous, never-ending story.

It spans the base game (which I assume you are nearly done with), 5 patches, the Heavensward expansion, 5 patches, the Stormblood expansion, 5 patches, Shadowbringers, 5 patches, Endwalker, 5 patches and Dawntrail.

Each of these, individually, is "like a whole new game"'s worth of story, in the developer's words and the patches can be a lot on their own.

And that isn't even getting to the hundreds of hours of side stories that are worth doing just because they're either good stories or good raids.

Q2. Gear progresses based on item level. If it's higher item level, it's always better. There are rare exceptions to this, but you don't need to worry about that until you're level 100 and through the story (and many people don't worry about it then unless they do raids).

So for example, as the game is very formulaic, I can say that in the new expansion we will slowly progress our gear from dungeon drops until we reach level 100, where we will be able to reach item level 700 tomestone gear by farming Aesthetics tomestones. After that, some of us will do extreme trials and normal raids to try to get as much 710 gear as possible. Shortly thereafter, crafted gear releases to make sure we have 710 gear. And there begins our weeks-long grind to try to get 720 or 730.

One piece of 720 gear a week comes from capping Heliometry tomestones. This is something all players can do.

However, players that do the high-end raids, which can take weeks of progression (either with random players or an organized team), can get raid gear drops of item level 730 and drops to upgrade their 720 tomestone gear to 730.

But you don't need to worry about any of that until you're through the story and unless you want to do raiding. You just need to meet the base requirement to enter the duty by clicking the Recommended Gear button regularly and redeeming the gear coffers the MSQ gives you.

Q3. Gear that people like can come from many different locations, or even be a combination of different gear combined with dyes. So they may get some of them from challenging raids, from older content that they can destroy with their high-level gear, from dungeons (which is easy content), from farming tomestones, from fixed grinds, from crafted gear, from quests and seasonal events or from the mog station. It can vary a lot, really, but these would be the main ways.

Q4. According to a lot of people, gil is mostly useless. But I usually hear this from veteran players that have made themselves rich.

It really depends on what you want with the gil. If you are into glamour/looks, you might spend a lot. If you are into houses and decorating them, you might spend a lot. If you raid, you will probably at least want to buy raid food and damage potions regularly (so it helps to keep around 1 million around all the time, which isn't much by the way and you will get it through the MSQ, roulettes and selling useless inventory most likely).

Gil can buy most minions in the game which are such rare drops you might never see them drop. It can buy some mounts, but not all of them. There have always been mounts sold this way, but they added some extremely big gil sink mounts a while back to address the lack of uses for gil. The majority of mounts will come from other methods such as grinds or achievements.

Depending on if your server was a preferred server when you made your character you might have been given 10 gold chocobo feathers. You can turn those in at the calamity dealer. I would suggest buying the 50 weapon and the 50 chest and legs. Uses all 10 but gets you a really good start to 50 gear.

    1. The main scenario quests (MSQ) continues all the way to level 100. I recommend doing all of it because it unlocks areas and a significant chunk of content. At level 50 you'll also want to unlock the alliance raid series (24 man raids), because that will be required for MSQ.

    2. Item level tells you how much stats a gear piece has relative to other pieces. More item level is usually better as long as it is meant for your job. Main stats such as Dexterity are more important than other stats because they increase damage the most. So always aim for the highest item level piece.

    3. Crafted, raids, dungeons, trials, events, online store, casual side content, MSQ and various currencies. Glamour is a big part of the game for many people.

    4. The most expensive things you can buy are gil-sink mounts (simple vendor mounts you buy for up to 50 million gil), houses (costing 3-50 million gil), new housing skins, new mounts and new battle gear for endgame. Other uses include glamour, crafting materials, furniture, leveling gear, materia, raiding potions and food, dyes and collection items such as minions and hairstyles. Gil is not required for anything in casual play, but it has some uses.

Number 4 is so on point - people underestimate the gil cost for leveling crafters.
