It's not because of DDoS issues.
The game servers will be shutting down for an additional 2 days each month to reduce carbon emissions, to be in line with the EU's new rulings on climate change.
The NA servers will be following suit along with JP, so it's not just you being affected. We're all in this together!

Personally what I want is for them to put the "cheap dungeon" mini game into the launcher just so people who try to the launch the game get that with a maintenance timer tick down.

Honestly any of the toy chest games would work. I just mentioned this one because it doesn't really require much to implement in the launcher's CEF webview.
