There will be plenty of time to do this over several days while waiting in the login queue. Open a stream, leave your headphones on the desk and go make food or go for a walk or something.

You can just put a stream on mute in a tab you aren't looking at for a few hours.
FFXIV clubs often have the ffxiv tag. Those streams are just music over a cast of the interior of a house. Watch one of those. no spoilers.
I find it strange myself. In a Lodestone post they ask us to not spoil other players who want to experience the Dawntrail in their own speed and at the same time want us to watch Streams and potentially spoil ourselves.
Does it work if you play the game and have Twitch open in a browser? Because when playing the game, the browser can't be the active window.

I'm not a weaver,
and I'm not scared to use them.
This is false, or only applies to some games. wow had a drop last month that i got by muting the tab and watching youtube insteadNope, you actively have to watch to accumulate progress towards each campaign tier. Twitch (Amazon) over the years since the Twitch drops feature has existed have gone out of their way to make sure viewers cannot passively let streams simply run.
- You cannot run the stream in the background anymore.
- you cannot mute the sound anymore. (you can turn the sound down but muting halts progress)
- you cannot let the account watching the stream go idle anymore.
I've participated in a lot of these twitch drop campaigns over the years for different mmorpg's/online games, and it just keeps getting worse, and while i don't think many would really bat an eye over the feature; having a twitch drop campaign at the beginning on an expansion for a game that traditionally tends to keep it's spoilers close to the vest; .....it really is an awful idea.
It does say you have to actually be engaged and watching the stream. Fortunately, there is enough time to do this after completing the MSQ. I take multiple weeks to get through everything but there is enough time at the end of July to catch a stream.
This is running for a month. This is going to be a non-issue for the majority of people who play this game since the majority will be finished MSQ within that month. All of the streamers will be done MSQ within the first few days I would expect in the race to push out content first.
If you want the mount then do DT yourself first and then go get it through drops after?

What would "engaged and watching" entail? It could mean different things.
Edit:
The "Streams played in the background or via inactive tabs won't count towards the hours watched criteria." is most likely just a notice on how Twitch drops works and not anything special about FFXIV twitch drop per say.
So if one can still get drops on twitch with a muted tab it'll most likely work for FFXIV drop as well.

When I first clicked on the thread, I thought, "Huh, I've never really considered this before, but there might be some truth to it." However, as I read further, it became increasingly clear that you're just trolling or trying to provoke a reaction.
