Judgment can cut both ways. I wouldn't waste my time with groups who base decisions solely off of logs with no in-game vetting.

Most successful statics do both
Check logs then trial the player to see how they react to mechanics
If a dps is doing less damage than a healer then they're a waste of a slot regardless of if they can do mechanics.

Not that there's anything wrong with being unable to do good damage- but you should NOT expect to be able to get carried in the games hardest content.
